WR Ray Small (official thread)

Heres the lesson I learned, don't schedule anything at 8 am.

I don't schedule anything before 10:30..

Earliest class this quarter is 12:30 PM. I love it. But yeah, my original point was that we're talking about academic probation in Ray's thread, but we don't know if he's on it (I don't think). It's kind of unfair to him. /on topic

This whole thing with Ray Small's dad saying that Tressel is ruining his son's career........

Man... this just screams to me that Small SR. already was cashing NFL paychecks for JR.

When have we ever known Tressel to be unfair to players if they are walking the line?

His dad brought up things about other players in the past about other players who were caught for 1st time offenses. They were the first and ONLY times these players walked outside the lines. He also never mentioned Steve Bellisari's 1 game suspension in 2001 for a DUI.. guess what game Steve missed... Michigan.. which we won. He failed to mention that one.

I am sure Tressel has certain areas, like stated in a previous post, go to school, go to meetings, BE A GOOD EXAMPLE AND TEAMMATE!!!.... that matters more to him than a 4.3 40 yard dash and great hands. And teammates who continually have bad attitudes, skip or late to class and act like they don't care..... have a non-chalant attitude.. I am sure that drives Tressel crazy...

Again, I just think Small Sr. had his son's NFL money spent before he earned it. And is blinded that his son is not really doing his part.

Small still not out of doghouse

By Rusty Miller
Associated Press

Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Unlike last week, when he wheeled and walked away from reporters when grilled about wide receiver Ray Small's playing time, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel kept his cool Tuesday, Nov. 11, when asked a question about the in-the-doghouse player.
Asked if he minded addressing Small's availability or lack thereof for the game at Illinois on Saturday, Tressel said tersely, "Lack thereof."
Last week, Small's father, Ken Small, blasted Tressel for benching his son, who was the team's second-leading receiver and top punt returner. Ken Small said Ohio State players have been arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and trying to pick up a prostitute. Those players were not benched, he said, yet his son was suspended, apparently for not going to classes and meetings and for several other minor wrongs.
Tressel said he had not slammed the door shut on Ray Small.

If Ken is referring to the Henton saga when mentioning picking up prostitutes, he must've been asleep for the near-entire season Henton missed last year while suspended pending the investigation.

Because dog spelled backwards ...
Now why would you spell dog "b-a-c-k-w-a-r-d-s"?

Steve was suspended for the Illinois game (which we lost) and was then benched for the Michigan game. I may be mistaken but Im pretty sure he was in uniform for the Michigan ame...even though he didn't play. If he was suspended for the Michigan game...then it was a 2 game suspension.

Krenzel and McMullen split time against ILL then CK got the start against Michigan

Right and Steve didnt play until the 2nd half of the Outback bowl when we were down like 28-0. He almost brought us back and passed for 313 yards I think.

It was a great comeback to 28-28 after being down 28-0 even though we lost 31-28. This article had Belisari for 320 yards:

"Bellisari, who was 21-of-35 for 320 yards"
Several good story links here:

Surprisingly an ESPN reporter actually admitted we got shafted on a penalty:
"The official made a terrible call late in the game when he gave Ohio State an unsportsmanlike penalty based on a celebration after the Buckeyes intercepted a pass. That changed the end of the game. It put Ohio State in the shadow of its own goal posts and prevented the Buckeyes from running their offense the way they would have. I was shocked when Steve Bellisari threw the ball down the field as almost as a give-up play. Sheldon Brown intercepted the pass and, after a great return, put South Carolina in field-goal range. With 14 seconds to go, the Gamecocks did the right thing running the ball inside just to get them in good position to kick the 42-yard field goal. Getting the extra few yards turned out to be the difference because Daniel Weaver's kick barely made it.
