Congrats Ray on your Captaincy in this, the biggest Game of the year. Now go out and earn that #4, even if you don't want it anymore.

A big congratulations to one Raymond Small, I know he will help lead the Bucks to another victory over Michigan and capture another set of gold pants. Good luck Ray! :osu:

Ray is really one of my favorite Buckeyes, and IMO, he is an example of just how great of a coach we have in Jim Tressel.

I just went back through his thread-- just read 4 or 5 pages from about the 50-80 page mark... And man, has this kid been on a roller coaster ride. On page 50, it was all about how he was playing as a true freshman and we knew he would be electric, the next Ginn. Then it slowly was "man I hope he gets better", "when he's feeling 100% he'll be the next Ginn", and then eventually we got pages like this:
http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/buckeye-football/7204-wr-ray-small-official-thread-81.html
where people were (understandably) saying he should be kicked off the team because he wasn't following the rules, and then I remember that he was thinking about leaving, the whole deal with his father, etc etc...
And now look.

Haven't heard an incident in ages. On the one hand--he's just doing what everyone else is doing. I don't necessarily commend people for finally doing what everyone else has been doing all along. Why praise Small for now doing the right things, when someone like, say, Spitler has been doing the right things since the moment he walked on campus (as far as I know)?

But fact of the matter is--it's impressive. It's a testament to Ray and the coaching staff, and it should not go unnoticed. Neither, of course, should all of the other fine men we have on the team.

It's also an example of just how well JT knows his team. There's a reason he didn't kick Ray off the team. It isn't because we needed him to win ball games, although he certainly has been an asset. It's because JT knew there was a very good chance that Ray would turn around. Our coaching staff has made a big difference in Ray Small's life, and we should all pay attention to that.

Nice post. I've also been a Ray Small fan for a while now. What I've always loved is that no matter how much he was in the dog house or how little he contributed, he was always out there congratulating his teammates with a smile on his face. When things didn't quite go the way he probably planned as an 18 year old high school stud, he could've easily turned into a bitter "woah is me" type person. But he's always seemed upbeat and involved and with his team.

Congrats Ray on following it through and sticking it out man. I hope he finishes strong and gets that degree! And it would sure be awesome to see him take it to the house at the big house. :)

Senior Day Speeches Extra Special for Two Buckeyes
By John Porentas

It's tradition that all of the seniors, one at a time, address the assembled crowd at the annual Ohio State awards banquet held every year following the regular season.

This year was no exception, and as expected, all the seniors took their turn at the podium with sometime funny and sometime poignant stories of their memories of their OSU football careers.

For two OSU seniors, that trip to the podium was not so routine. As a matter a fact, there were those who thought one of them might never make that trip.

OSU wide receiver Ray Small has had what some might describe as a rocky career at OSU. Small was never in deep trouble, but was far enough in the Jim Tressel dog house that at times during his career it cost him playing time and practice privileges.

Rumors swirled around each incident that Small was on his way out of Ohio State. That, however, never happened, and Small was actually named a team captain for what is traditionally the biggest game of the year on the OSU schedule, the Michigan game. Like the turnaround, the fact that Small was still around to make that senior speech was remarkable.

"The people that said I wouldn't make it, they probably don't know me because I'm a guy that never gives up," said a smiling Small after the festivities in downtown Columbus yesterday.

The ROSE BOWL is going to be Ray's last game in Scarlet and Gray. Methinks that Ray Ray comes up big against Oregon, both in the return game and receiving.

Here's hoping that Ray finishes the game with CO-MVP honors with TP.

Could you imagine if both of these guys have the game of their lives against Oregon?

Boarding House Bulletin: More Bad News At WR?

We interrupt your regularly-scheduled reading for this Boarding House Bulletin. Unfortunately for Ohio State, there is more bad news to pass along about the wide receiver position...
Looks like Small has been absent from practices and is a likely no-go for the Bucks vs Oregon. T-Wash is #3 WR...

Really RAY!?!? After everything throughout this year thinking he'd changed, this might hurt some in the bowl game! I don't think Taurian is good enough(ot should I say consistent enough) to get much PT in a BCS bowl game if he can't keep his eyes on the ball against Navy. Let's hope he shakes those jitters, because losing Small is a huge loss! What's up Flash, u gotta step up!

This thing is not final yet. We may still have Ray for the Rose Bowl....but it isn't looking good for him. Don't wanna say too much here.....

If Ray is indeed not part of the Rose Bowl, I could see Sanzenbacher or Posey stepping into the role of returning punts. I am not too worried about the 3rd receiver.....how many times has TP actually thrown to the 3rd WR? Not many.
