WR Noah Brown (Washington Commanders)

Scout $ - Brown Eyeing Visits as Decision Approaches

8/20

By Dohn.....Focused on Rutgers, Ohio State, Vanderbilt & Virginia Tech and plans on making a decision before September 12th. May take officials to Vandy & VT before that. Again says commitment of Curtis Samuel has no effect on him & he talks with the OSU staff weekly.

My crystal ball pick for Brown is actually Rutgers, which I changed to about 4 hours ago from Virginia Tech.

I think Noah is an excellent, excellent player and I know that Ohio State is still very involved for his services. He told me today that he spoke extensively with Urban Meyer last night and that he knows the Buckeyes are still very interested and they told him they'd have a spot for him until he says he doesn't want it. He also said he's really down to Ohio State, Rutgers and Vanderbilt and that a decision will be made by September 12th.

He also said the report of him almost committing to Rutgers recently was not true, and that he's just been trying to make the best decision between the three schools that are standing out to him.

My gut tells me he stays home.

I respect his prediction of Rutgers but here is something he needs to think about...Brown has to realize that he will be playing against the Buckeyes every year. Your not winning the B10 or a NC at Rutgers. If Rutgers was still in the BE I would think Rutgers as well...they are in the B10 now and I am sure Brown has realized he will be facing the Buckeyes.

I will admit that I have been slow to warm to this guy being in the class because of tight numbers and concerns with other position groups. But with spots opening up lately due to transfers, injuries, etc it seems like we might have a little more room than I thought and I would love to get him in this class. I know Urb has said he likes 12 WRs on the roster and Noah certainly has a body type and skill set that is different than others we have.

If a kid wants to stay close to home he wants to stay close to home.

I hve to disagree. I have the utmost respect for guys that stay home, partucularly when they dont havea great program. There are good reasons to leave home for football. They love the program, the coaches, the atmosphere, the competition, the facilities, opportunity for playing time, friends or family go/went there. But leaving town just to play on a team that is set up for a national title win is not a good reason IMHO. If he goes to Rutgers wanting to bring them to the next level than i wish him all the luck. Trying the build something from nothing is a lot more difficult than joining a team that has won 3 national titles in 4 years.

You're assuming he wouldn't have been in regardless.

The staff never lost contact with him after he was told he was the #1 WR prospect on the board. I don't think he would've been turned away.
Clearly there is some debate on the order of prospects but I expect Mavety/Prince would be one if not two spots...but let's say that is just one spot and the class finishes with 5, not 6 for the O Line. Then you go McMillan, Lattimore and Holley which are likely higher than Brown. So you are sitting at a minimum of 4 spots there putting you at 21. 24 would be on the large size numbers wise so at a minimum he is competing for one of the last 3 spots assuming we landed those guys. If the class only gets to 23 then it narrows further, etc. Of course the staff has always wanted him but it's not like he is in the same category as the 4 players I mentioned. I also failed to mention Gesicki who the staff is very high on as well. IMO, Brown is the #1 WR and Gesicki is the #1 TE. If only one could get in, who knows who it would be? I hope the staff lands both.

How do you know he's not in the same "category" as those other players? What category is that?

Agreed. We have no real idea where these guys rank compared to each other. We don't really have a big physical WR who can make plays after the catch on the roster. Brown is unique in that regard and could be very high on Urban's board.

I also think this class is headed toward 24+ and odds are that not all the current commits end up in the final number. They all seem solid and okay grade wise, but stuff comes up every single year in January and a guy or 2 flips or gets dropped due to off field stuff. Spots aren't quite as tight as they look on paper.
