WR Joey Galloway (Official Thread)

For the amount of carpet-bombing of our atletic program ESPN has been engaged in, they sure do have a [Mark May]load of former OSU players on the payroll...

Good for Joey Galloway to transition.

It could be the "racist" argument. I can't be racist, I have a "so and so" friend.

We can't hate Ohio State, look how many former Buckeyes we employ.

Technically, it resembles the Herbie argument whenever he had to come up with a defense on why he made whatever remark about Ohio State (minus the one where he said he was "sleepy" and moved OSU down three spots in his poll).

1) I went to Ohio State
2) My wife was an OSU cheerleader
3) My kids wear Ohio State stuff
4) My dad coached at Ohio State
5) I used to live in Columbus

...how can I hate Ohio State.

Galloway always excited to come home to his fans

Joey Galloway has never been one to forget where he came from.

After all, the former Bellaire Big Red, Ohio State Buckeye and 16-year NFL performer has presented his high school football (John Magistro) and basketball (Gene Ammirante) coaches with expensive vehicles for their work with him as a youth.

He has also donated to various organizations in the Ohio Valley, not just Bellaire, be it financially or with speaking engagements.

Friday night, however, the 'Bellaire Bullet' was in the valley to help promote a special cause - the fight against cancer. He, along with his wife Tyra, two sons (Michael 3, Jett 1) and two brothers (James and Curtis) were guests of the Wheeling Nailers during Relay at the Rink.

Prior to dropping the ceremonial first puck for the Nailers' game with the Toledo Walleye, Galloway, who completed his first season as a college football analyst for ESPN last fall, signed autographs for fans attending the game at WesBanco Arena.

"I always enjoy coming back to the Ohio Valley because I get so much support from people," the Columbus resident revealed. "Not only Bellaire fans, but people from Martins Ferry, St. Clairsville, Wheeling ... ."

As for his broadcasting debut.

"It was very interesting," he explained. "It was a learning experience. They don't give you much coaching. You show up and go to work. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to next season."

Living in the Buckeye State capital now, Galloway admittedly spends a lot of time around Ohio State football practices.

So, what does he think the Scarlet and Gray will do in head coach Urban Meyer's second season after a spotless 12-0 mark last fall?

"I think they will go undefeated again," he boldly stated without hesitation. "They will be better than they were last season, and their schedule is a little weaker this year. I think they will go undefeated."

Asked to speak to the players, former Buckeye receiver Joey Galloway told a 13-year old practice story. For the only time in his 16-year pro career Galloway was "jammed" off the line, had a hand stuck in his chest by a defensive back while with the Dallas Cowboys.

"I fall on my butt," said Galloway, recounting the story later. "I told the coaches, 'We're going again.' I killed [the defender]. I told him, 'I plan to decapitate you. I'm going to take your head off.' "

That, from a 5-foot-11, 197-pound receiver. The implication: If Galloway can lead from his position, why can't the likes of Miller -- Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year -- be so much better?

Galloway?s take
Former Ohio State receiver Joey Galloway spent a day at OSU this week as he and ESPN, including fellow analyst and former Michigan quarterback Brian Griese, sized up the Buckeyes. Galloway was asked yesterday for one overriding impression.
?OSU may have the best stable of running backs in the country in terms of depth and versatility, with the addition of the two freshmen to the vets like (Carlos) Hyde and (Jordan) Hall,? Galloway said.He was referring to freshmen Dontre Wilson and Ezekiel Elliott, both of whom are considered candidates for playing time. With Hyde suspended for the first three games, the other returning players are Hall, who is coming back from a knee injury that knocked him out of the last half of the 2012 season, veteran Rod Smith and sophomores Bri?onte Dunn and Warren Ball.

MSR Ohio--Joey Galloway - Sharing his Knowledge
Joey Galloway - Sharing his Knowledge

Two months ago, I received a call from Joey Galloway inviting me to a football speed camp that he was going to hold near Bellaire, Ohio. his would be his first effort and he invited me. Last week I made the trip.
Joey had texted me after the first day, that the attendance was not what he had expected, and he was not sure that the trip would benefit me. First, I made the commitment earlier and would fulfill it. Second, I do not get to the Bellaire area often and thought that I might find a "diamond-in-the-rough." Lastly, I wanted to see the "highly profiled" Joey Galloway work with kids and see what kind of teacher he was going to be.
Hopefully, most Ohio State people are familiar with Joey Galloway, the All-American receiver back in 1994
from Ohio State University. Joey went on to the NFL, playing for Dallas and Seattle and then bouncing around for a few years.
Now a retired NFL player, I believe he is doing some football broadcasting. A little nugget - As a high school senior at Bellaire High School, Joey's picture was on the cover of one of my first recruiting magazines.
