Galloway?s season hasn?t lived up to expectations.

Veteran WR has yet to deliver on lofty potential
The jeers from the Gillette Stadium crowd said it all.
Patriots wide receiver Joey Galloway hauled in an 8-yard reception in the third quarter of Sunday?s victory over the Falcons, and the hometown fans erupted in unison, sarcastically applauding Galloway?s first catch of the afternoon.
It?s been a rough season for Galloway, a 37-year-old who has been one of the league?s most productive receivers in recent years.
While he is on pace for 37 receptions and 357 yards ? basically on par for the Patriots? third receiver over the last two seasons ? it?s easier to focus on the passes Galloway has not caught. He has pulled in just seven of the 19 passes thrown in his direction this season.
?In this league, you play against a different defense every single week, and there?s going to be weeks when things look good and there?s going to be weeks where things don?t look good,? said Galloway, who went to Ohio State. ?And that doesn?t mean that a quarterback and a receiver are not in sync. It just means that sometimes, you?re going against a different look and a different scheme.?
But wide receiver Joey Galloway, who's had trouble getting on the same page as Tom Brady so far in 2009, is a healthy scratch. Or at least he wasn't on the injury report (one never knows if something happened in the pregame).
Patriots journal: Galloway's absence could mean his departure is near

FOXBORO ? While one receiver, Wes Welker, made his triumphant return against Baltimore, another was conspicuously absent: Joey Galloway.
The veteran receiver was a healthy scratch ? possibly for the first time in his career ? as New England stayed with just four pure receivers in Welker, Randy Moss, Julian Edelman and Sam Aiken.
Galloway has struggled mightily this season, and while all parties have said the right things, saying his timing with Brady is a work in progress and something they've worked hard on, the fact remains that the 37-year old wideout was not some training-camp signing. He has been with Brady since March, and the two had the entire offseason as well as training camp to work together and for Galloway to learn the offense, something he still admitted to be struggling with as recently as 10 days ago.
Galloway was not much of a factor in the first three games of the season; he has seven catches for 67 yards, but has been targeted by Brady more than 20 times.
When Bill Belichick was asked about Galloway being inactive, he gave no explanation.
"We had four receivers active for the game. It was Julian, Wes, Randy and Sam," Belichick said.
With rookie Brandon Tate able to come off the reserve/non-football injury list in two weeks and Terrence Nunn on practice squad, Galloway's days in New England could be numbered.

FOXBORO - Discussion about veteran wideout Joey Galloway, his apparent benching Sunday and his future with the Patriots [team stats] remained cryptic yesterday.
Director of player personnel Nick Caserio, who was the wide receivers coach in 2007 and still works with the offense, was asked during a conference call about Galloway being a healthy scratch. He didn?t shed much more light on the subject than coach Bill Belichick on Monday.
?Well, we went with four receivers for the game. We felt that was the best way for us to play,? Caserio said. ?Joey had played the weeks before, he?s been productive. I think Joey?s worked hard since he?s been here. He?s getting more and more familiar with the system. Any player that is here on our team, we feel they can help us at any given point in time. We went with four receivers this particular week, and that was the decision that we made.?
The four receivers who played against the Ravens were veterans Randy Moss and Wes Welker, rookie Julian Edelman and Sam Aiken, who is noted more for his special teams play.
It?s possible another name could enter the mix in a few weeks as Brandon Tate, a third-round pick last April, is eligible to come off the non-football injury list after the Pats? Oct. 18 game against Tennessee.
When asked if Tate could see action this year, Caserio sounded optimistic.
?We?ll see. We really won?t know until he is actually on the field,? Caserio said. ?He is working hard with the trainers. I think since he has been here that Brandon has been really diligent with his whole workouts and his rehab. He is in the meetings all the time, so he is processing information.?

Galloway inactive for Sunday's game

Patriots wide receiver Joey Galloway did not accompany the team on the trip to Denver. As was the case last week, Galloway will be inactive for Sunday's game even though he is healthy.
Galloway is a vested veteran, meaning his salary for the season became guaranteed once he made the opening-day roster. Therefore, according to a Patriots source, the team is unlikely to simply release the receiver unless it becomes necessary to use his roster spot for another player.
"I think he will be OK," the source said. "This is just part of the Patriot maturation process."
Joey Galloway has had a long career and a lot of production. How has he handled the last two weeks and have you taken some time out to talk to him?
Belichick: "Yeah, we talk to all the players. We are here every day. I don?t meet with every player every day, but I talk to players, coaches talk to them -- position coach, coordinator, whatever it happens to be. I think everybody?s in the same situation. We go through a week of practice, everybody prepares and most players are active and a few aren?t. Sometimes injuries take care of that, and other times it?s game plan or game decisions based on the players that we feel like will have the biggest role or the most important role in the game. A lot of times we don?t know who that?s going to be for sure until around this time. Sometimes it?s a game-time decision based on injury. But a lot of times we go through the whole week of practice, and get everybody ready, and try to decide which players are going to be active and which ones aren?t."
Which way will it go for Galloway?

For two weeks running, Patriots wide receiver Joey Galloway's suffered the indignity of being a healthy scratch. Furthering the humiliation, the 37-year-old's been pushed into disuse by rookie seventh-rounder Julian Edelman, a converted quarterback from Kent State.
Signed to a one-year, $1.75 million deal in March, it can't be going as Galloway envisioned it. In three games, Galloway's caught seven passes for 67 yards and he's been a missing man during locker room access periods at Foxboro. His agent, Shawn Trell, declined comment on Galloway's situation this week, offering only a "He's happy to be in New England."
If time off is Galloway's main interest, no wonder he's happy. It will be interesting to see what role the Patriots have for Galloway on Sunday, if any. New England is up against the horrendous pass defense of the Tennessee Titans and an all-hands-on-deck approach at the wide receiver position could be in the offing.
If Galloway's hands are idle, it will be more proof that the Patriots missed badly on Galloway and that he is likely near the end of the line.
Wide receiver Joey Galloway: No surprise here. The wide receiver is a healthy scratch for the third consecutive week, and his time in Foxboro is likely coming to an end. It?s been a disappointing run with the Patriots for Galloway, and it appears his brief run with New England will come to an end sooner rather than later, possibly as soon as this week when rookie wide receiver/returner Brandon Tate is eligible to be activated

Another rumor: Patriots' Galloway to Ravens
Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network is linking the Ravens to a possible trade for New England wide receiver Joey Galloway.
There is some history here because Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has made deals with Patriots coach Bill Belichick in the past. But the Ravens could just wait to see if the Patriots release Galloway, who has been a disappointment this season (seven catches for 67 yards and no touchdowns).
As of Friday, a team source said the Ravens didn't expect to make any trades before Tuesday's NFL deadline.
Source: Patriots release Galloway
The New England Patriots have released wide recevier Joey Galloway, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported.
Galloway, a 15-year NFL veteran, has seven receptions for 67 yards this season. He has been inactive for the last three weeks as the Patriots
Jake;1572215; said:Best thing for him at this point after three inactives. He may get a look elsewhere, but it's probably over for Joey. If so, he had a nice run. :osu:
