WASHINGTON • The dam finally broke.
After showing glimpses of their big play ability, but having few points to show for it in a frustrating first half, the lethal quarterback-wide receiver duo of Mekhi Hagens and Jameson Williams finally got going for Cardinal Ritter in an AAA Large Conference game at Borgia.
The duo connected for five touchdown passes, including three after Borgia cut the Lions’ lead to one in the third quarter, to power Cardinal Ritter to a 40-35 victory.
Hagens finished 17-for-27 passing for 363 yards with the six touchdowns and an interception. Williams, an Ohio State recruit, finished with nine catches for 286 yards for Cardinal Ritter (7-0, 3-0), No. 3 in the STLhighschoolsports small school rankings and No. 3 in the Missouri Media's Class 3 poll.
And the Lions needed all of those numbers to fend off a plucky Borgia squad.
Hagens found Williams for touchdown scores of 80, 25 and 85 yards in a big play-filled third quarter. The duo connected four times for 199 yards in the third as the Lions built a 33-21 lead.
