Not sure why you think this was mismanaged? What should have been done differently? I’m sure he could see where he stood in the pecking order and that the coaches had an honest conversation with him. I wasn’t surprised by this as an outside observer.
The one Twitter take that Saban went into Hartlines’ receiver room and stole Williams is disingenuous.

Jameson has a chance to do great thing sat Bama, but I don't think anyone could've just watched the spring game and seen Jameson as the #3. Not when JSN, Harrison, and Egebuka showed out the way they did. You're talking about a straight line speed threat, versus true WR's that can create separation via route running and physicality. I'm taking the more versatile WR who can execute crossing routes, get open in multiple cob=verges, and not rely on one trait to be special. And not to be overlooked, I think Jameson, of the veteran WR's, was by far the worst run blocker (which is relatively minor in whole scheme of things at position, but OSU emphasizes the hell out of it).
I think people need to get ready for how special some of these young dudes are. I don't think it's even close between Egbuka and Jameson at this moment tbh. It's night and day in terms of ability to get open, yards after catch, and physicality. And then you see Harrison's skill off LOS and ability to be a big bodies target.....we just have better options IMO.

I take it you haven't followed this much. But Williams wasn't even in our top 5 best WRs...
And may not even see the field in Tuscaloosa. Sad loss, but doesn't affect OSU at all tbh. Williams is fast, we all get that. But brought little else to the table. Maybe he does in Bama

Jameson wasn’t losing playing time as much as he wanted more of it.
People even mentioning JSN & Egbuka taking snaps away from Jameson should be ignored. They don’t even play the same positions. None of the younger guys made him leave. What pushed Jameson out the door was Olave coming back. If Chris doesn’t come back, Jameson is a starter on the outside and Fleming/Harrison Jr. would be backing up him and Wilson.
Some of the comments I’m seeing from Buckeye fans about Jameson have been really weird.

I’m going to have to disagree with you here, JSN’s emergence 100% took snaps away from Jamison. The staff thought he was too good to keep off the field, thus starting him at the slot and moving Garrett outside (and into Jamison’s spot).

I liked Williams. I liked his talent and potential. I really liked his speed. But his talent hasn't turned into production. He has 15 career catches. Despite starting last year, he had just as many games with zero catches as he did with more than one catch. He's unfulfilled potential at this point and there's no evidence he was going to reach the potential coming off the bench instead of starting. Maybe his career here is ultimately a Covid casualty and he would have been great in 2020 with a full off-season and whatnot, but we'll never know.

I hope he's aware that this was his one shot at a free transfer. Saban isn't afraid to start true freshmen and will tell him to take a hike after a few dropped balls or incorrectly run routes.
Good luck to him though, he appeared to be a great teammate who was always the first one there to celebrate when others made a play.

He’s the best natural slot receiver on the team. Of course he’s going to play there over everybody else. His emergence there was to be expected. Wilson was always only going to play inside for one year because he’s better out wide. That was also expected. I bet you Jameson knew all of this as well.
The issue is Chris deciding to return to his spot. It was going to be Williams, Wilson, and JSN...until Chris came back.
If Chris wasn’t here, do you think Jameson would’ve transferred?

No...The issue was he got passed up by two true freshman in the Spring. He was already WR4 coming into the Spring behind Olave, Wilson, and JSN. MHJr and Egbuka passed him up. Now consider a healthy Fleming and that puts Jameson buried on the depth chart. Sure, he has speed. But he's not consistent in his routes or catching the ball.
