WR Jameson Williams (transfer to Alabama, Detroit Lions)

He’s the best natural slot receiver on the team. Of course he’s going to play there over everybody else. His emergence there was to be expected. Wilson was always only going to play inside for one year because he’s better out wide. That was also expected. I bet you Jameson knew all of this as well.

The issue is Chris deciding to return to his spot. It was going to be Williams, Wilson, and JSN...until Chris came back.

If Chris wasn’t here, do you think Jameson would’ve transferred?

Maybe Fleming or Harrison Jr. starts at that open spot? We’ll never truly know. I know that you’d be hard-pressed to find a single Ohio State beat writer saying Williams was the clear #3 out wide following spring practices.

That wasn’t your initial take to which I responded though. Last year’s starters were Wilson-Olave-Williams. This year’s starters are Wilson-Olave-JSN. I don’t see any way anyone can argue that JSN had no effect on Jamison’s playing time, regardless of where any of the WR’s are lined up.

Jameson & JSN don’t play the same position. That’s like a backup DE transferring because a younger DT won a starting spot. Just because there are 4 DL, doesn’t mean all 4 spots are the same. You know that.

The people at his position are what’s preventing him from being on the field.

No way on earth Jameson is our best slot. Jameson isn't very fluid in and out of routes, and is much more dangerous outside as a threat to take the lid off. We have several receivers better suited for slot based on route running and ability to get free off line of scrimmage. Those same options are also significantly better "run after catch" players where Jameson struggles unless he's in a foot race to end-zone. I think you're a bit off-base on this one.

He was referring to Smith-Njigba as the best natural slot receiver on the team.

The amount of people freaking out over a #3/#4 WR who has really not show much to date transferring when the WR room is stacked beyond belief is astonishing.
When he came in and was a top guy against Northwestern with Olave out, he didn’t exactly shine. If I recall correctly, he was inconsistent and was pretty directly responsible for a turnover when he broke a route on the sideline in a way Fields was not expecting.

It’s possible that the issues that led to that inconsistency against Northwestern (and throughout his time at Ohio State), and led to him feeling like he was being passed up on the depth chart, might lead to him having trouble breaking out at Bama.

Maybe they utilize their WRs differently, maybe the room isn’t as deep and it won’t be as much of an issue, but it seems fairly clear that the things that held him back at Ohio State were outside of his physical abilities.

These social media flare ups feed into that perception for me. I’m thinking Saban/Bama aren’t going to tolerate much off field nonsense here.

I’ll always have a great memory of Jameson catching the bomb for a TD against Clemson.

At Alabama, I wish him best, I hope he becomes a starter for them. Hopefully he faces the Buckeyes in a playoff game and makes zero catches, unless he fumbles the ball each time after catching it. But that’s not personal or vindictive, I’ll want the same thing for every Bama receiver when they face tOSU.
