WR Emeka Egbuka (All B1G, All-American)

honest question... is WR a NEED position or is this just a luxury?
Its certainly a luxury after the 2020 WR haul, not to mention already having commitments from Ballard and Harrison Jr., and thats not even including Burton in 2022 and who he can bring with.
Egbuka is an amazing talent that id love to have, but he's not the most important get

Would love to land him.....really want the #1 class in country, but no biggie.

Think our depth chart has shied him away, and that’s OK. It does most recruits. I think in a normal season with blowouts, our back-up WR’s would’ve racked up stats. The lack of production of our True Freshman WR’s is kinda scary for a guy like Egbuka. And that’s fair.....good luck if he ends up at OU.

Well, I'd certainly hate to not land Egbuka, he's an amazing talent that is about as close to a sure thing as you get. But as others have pointed out, we're flat out stacked at WR with or without him. Hopefully we get one last shot before he decides, but won't be the end of the world. Imo the biggest issue it would cause is if it causes us to miss on JT at DT... not sure that was ever a guaranteed package deal but missing on Egbuka wouldn't help. End of the day I do think this one may get chalked up to covid if he chooses OU with all the travel restrictions and our freshmen receivers not getting much of a chance to shine in a 4 game season where we have basically had to throw to Olave and Wilson every play.

EGBUKA THROWS WITH WILLIAMS

Not be too much of an internet sleuth here, but Egbuka's visit to Oklahoma this weekend – judging by what you can see via social media – has included a ton of one-on-one time with Sooners five-star quarterback commit Caleb Williams.

That includes plenty of time spent on a field in or around Norman throwing passes and working on chemistry.

Egbuka has his choice of which five-star quarterback he wants to pair up with in the 2021 class between Williams, Ohio State's Kyle McCord and Washington's Sam Huard.

All the way back in June, Eleven Warriors had good information that Oklahoma had squeezed its way into the top tier of Egbuka's recruitment and that the Sooners were a team that should be taken seriously.

Though many had speculated that Oklahoma was just a fourth team that Egbuka had thrown into his final four, we were told that Lincoln Riley and receivers coach Dennis Simmons had made a major impression on him later in the process than Ohio State, Washington and Clemson and that the Sooners were an emerging threat.

Sooners receivers coach Dennis Simmons made a lot of visits out to Steilacoom before the pandemic shut down in-person recruiting, which helped add more impact to the multiple positive Zoom meetings with the staff as a whole and the recent virtual visit. Those coaches have gotten to know Egbuka as a person over the last several months, propelling themselves to get into that group of four. Oklahoma wasn’t doing anything the other three programs haven’t been doing all along; it just did it a little later than the other three.

That information was proven accurate, and Oklahoma has as a good of a chance as the other two programs to land him. When we checked in a couple months ago, I was told the race was running 1) Ohio State 2) Oklahoma 3) Washington with the final two a close 2-3.

With the Sooners getting perhaps the final visit from Egbuka (depending on whether or not Egbuka chooses to push forward with his plan to play his senior season in the spring and enroll at his college of choice in the summer), it might wind up giving them the lead.

Well...

If it happens, it happens. We aren’t hurting at receiver. But man, you have to really wonder what this class could have been if not for COVID.

gotta start to wonder if all the depth OSU has recruited at the position the past 2-3 years is being used against them in his recruitment and OU's sales pitch.

I don't believe for a 2nd that Emeka is scared of competition. He is going to be an instant star whomever he signs with, but I do believe OU is probably in his ear about being "THE GUY" in their offense while telling him he may have to wait his turn at OSU.

Agree though, OH10, COVID does suck, and without it we would be talking about another historic class for sure.

For sure. Without COVID, I think you have Egbuka and JT from WA in the bag already....still might land them or one of them, but I am not loving our chances right now with the restrictions. Also have to wonder if Latham would be in this class. It is what it is but definitely think we were looking at a historically good class without COVID.

I would understand him going to OU but theres only one Brian Hartline and he's not at OU.

Hopefully we can get him on campus 1 more time but that's probably doubtful.

Both OSU and OU have elite QBs but IMO we have more coming in than OU at QB in the coming years not to mention everywhere else.

I think the first person who knows about the decision will be the same first person who knew he was visiting OU.

He confirms that he is talking about Hartline.

Also this from a few days ago, implying that his comfort and relationships with Hartline and the other OSU players in the class will win out.

Still feel the same as I did a year ago, two months ago, 48 hours ago, and four minutes ago.
