Friendly competition
Drew Carter and Keary Colbert split time as the No. 2 receiver throughout training camp, but Carter said the competition hasn't had a negative impact on their friendship.
"It's up for grabs, but everybody's going to contribute," Carter said. "You can make a big ordeal about the starting job, but third receivers make big plays. Ricky Proehl made lots of big plays when he was the third receiver. But you always want to shoot for the starting job.
"We both are working hard. We're good friends. There's no animosity because we just want to go out and win."
Rookie Dwayne Jarrett, a second-round pick, also is in the mix, but he missed time with an injury and hadn't had many first-team reps before the team broke camp Monday.
"It's not going to be something where you're given the job like at USC or Ohio State or wherever you're at," Carter said. "You come in on scholarship, so you know you're going to be around. But guys fight for jobs here. You've got to put forth effort every day and people are coming after you."
