WR DeVier Posey (2017 Grey Cup Champion and MVP)

things you don't want to have to ask your kid to do in a big meet: 1. run the hurdles and high jump or pole vault. 2. Anchor the 3200 relay, run the 1600 and 800 or 3200. 3. Run the 800, 1600 and 3200 and now add 4. run the 100, 200, 400. Having to run prelims the day before in high heat and then come back... not surprised to see him drop off in the 100 and 200 as the 400 really takes the strength out of your legs, but there are no flies on his 400 time.

La Salle's first state championship was won primarily by a kid named Bockenstette who managed to pull off #2. Anchor the 3200, win the 800, 1600 and 3200.

Still quite a meet for DeVier and congrats are in order.

Save those legs for gassers when the summer workouts begin. Like some others that have ran track into June and then joined the team soon thereafter, DeVier will be in good shape for football. Congrats Devier on a great HS track season. Now onto :osu: and football.

The 100 was run before the 400, but still the "surprise" applies for the 200. There were some real blazers in the 100, notably Allen and Isles. Unfortunately the headwind made for some slower times.

As others have previously noted, in physique, Posey doesn't look like a "typical 400 runner" taller than other runners in the event, but much thicker especially in the lower body.
On the last curve of the 400, it appeared he was fading ala Big Brown, but he just kicked up a gear on the straight and powered past the field.

Great year for DeVier, can't wait to see him in scarlet and grey.

JAY LAPRETE FOR THE ENQUIRER

La Salle's DeVier Posey crosses the finish line with a winning time of 47.41 seconds in the boys' Division I 400-meter race Saturday. Posey also finished fourth in the 100 and 200.

Posey, who qualified in three events, won the state title in the 400 meters (47.41). He finished fourth in the 100 (10.87) and fourth in the 200 (21.86).

Senior Kendall Owens was eighth in the 100 (11.14).

"We practiced hard every day," Posey said. "... We had a successful season."

Posey put in an extra gear to barely edge his opponent in the 400 just before the finish line. Dublin Scioto senior Thomas Murdaugh was second in 47.47.

"It was the last time running this event. I had to give it my all," Posey said. "I felt (the other runners coming up) and I just saw my whole career flash before my eyes like I was dying or something. I was like 'no way, I have to win something up here.' "

Posey, an Ohio State football signee, said it was significant to win his state title at his future school. Posey plans to move up to campus next Saturday.

Russo hugged Posey during an embrace in the infield after the post-meet ceremony.

"You've been unbelievable," Russo told Posey. "You are a great leader."

My point was that going through prelims, especially the 400 prelim, would take it's toll.

DeVier doesn't have Ginn's speed, but let's face it, it'll be some time before anyone see's that kind of speed again, even in the SEC.

This was one of the best races I've seen in quite a while... Ryan Barber (Sophomore, Westerville South) and William Henry (Sophomore, Trotwood-Madison) had the lead coming off the second curve with Posey and Thomas Murdaugh (Senior, Dublin Scioto) a good 5-7 meters back... Posey made one of the strongest finishes I've seen at the high school level to win the title. The top 4 were all under 48 seconds... great finals.

Great kick by Posey to win the 400, what hunger, just a will to not be defeated, and the glowing comments about his leadership from his coach, wow. It is indeed a Golden age in tOSU football, with so many kids of great character and equally great abilities, I look forward to watching Devier develop over the next few years.

There should be some spirited competition when the groups split up into sprint groups, Small, Saine, Posey, Flash, not to mention some of the defensive burners, the Track coaches will be salivating.

[Track hat]Hopefully some of these guys will consider running on the track team... that'd be a huge (needed) boost for the sprint program... it'd be great to see OSU 2-3 deep in some sprint events.[/Track hat]

With Posey's athletic ability and obvious competitive drive it wouldn't surprise me to see him on the field early in the season.
