WR DeVier Posey (2017 Grey Cup Champion and MVP)

Didn't Posey have a shoulder problem?

I believe he had a partially torn labrum and had minor surgery in January. He was always supposed to be ready for track season and I guess that was true. :)

La Salle track has sights set on state title
BY JIMMY TROMBLEY | [email protected]

On the legs of DeVier Posey and the arms of Chandler Burden the La Salle track team took its next step toward a potential state title, winning the regional meet with 64 points May 30 at Welcome Stadium. Trotwood-Madison took second with 59.

The regional title was the third ever at La Salle and the first since the Lancers went back-to-back in 1993-1994 - the last year the Lancers won a team state title.

Posey had a day to remember in Lancers track lore, winning the 100 (11.08 seconds), 200 (22.02) and 400-meter (47.65) sprints in helping his team to the title. Posey was the favorite heading into the 200 and 400 events after winning both in the district meet, but the 100 was a bit of an upset, especially to teammate Kandall Owens.

"What DeVier did today was legendary, but all the seniors stepped up today and it was a total team effort," Russo said. "Anytime you can win a regional title it's a great accomplishment."

La Salle senior wants to add to athletic accolades
BY MIKE DYER | [email protected]

La Salle senior standout DeVier Posey said he would feel complacent if he were to reflect on his high school career.

Posey, an Ohio State football signee, said it wouldn't be fair for his teammates or himself as the Lancers prepare for this weekend's state track and field meet at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus.

"I know I have done some things, but I am not satisfied yet," Posey said.

Last weekend, Posey helped lead the Lancers to their first Division I regional title since 1994.He won the 100 meters (11.08), 200 (22.02) and 400 (47.65) to pace La Salle, ranked No. 9 nationally by the Nike Web Nationals top 25 poll.

The wins in the 100 and 200 are nice, but winning the 400 says a good deal about this kids strength. Have to wait and see how he fairs against Cleveland Speed.

Don't forget about that Westerville Speed... Sophomore Ryan Barber has the state's fastest time at 47.44. It'll be a good battle between Posey and Barber tomorrow!

Electrically timed? They weren't as late as two years ago.

This is the first year on the new Jesse Ownes track... don't get me started on that... how could you take out the track Jesse ran on? I used to love to take (a) kid(s) up to the stadium for a meet. Once, before an indoor meet, I stopped in the coaches office with two distance kids that OSU had showed some interest in and who should pop in but Butch Reynolds, then the world's record holder in the 400. Their eyes bugged out and that's all I heard them talk about till we got back to Cincinnati.

Ah, hell, I was pretty bug eyed too.

OHSAA.org

Page 20 says "The FinishLynx fully automatic timing system shall be the official time in all events" ....... for the state meet.

When I was running, they were using electronic timing at the district and regional levels, and that was 6 years ago.

Hmmmmm. I was at Perc Welcome for the regionals last year and they were still using a team of timers. The state meet was the next week at the same site. The Jesse Owens facility is better equipped I'm sure. If so, it's a great improvement.
