Hmmmmm. I was at Perc Welcome for the regionals last year and they were still using a team of timers. The state meet was the next week at the same site. The Jesse Owens facility is better equipped I'm sure. If so, it's a great improvement.

Not to get too off-topic, but they still use teams of manual timers in case the automatic system ever falters. That could have been what you were seeing.

Back on topic.... those times are really fast on as hot a day as yesterday was. I will post state finals results as soon as I can.

things you don't want to have to ask your kid to do in a big meet: 1. run the hurdles and high jump or pole vault. 2. Anchor the 3200 relay, run the 1600 and 800 or 3200. 3. Run the 800, 1600 and 3200 and now add 4. run the 100, 200, 400. Having to run prelims the day before in high heat and then come back... not surprised to see him drop off in the 100 and 200 as the 400 really takes the strength out of your legs, but there are no flies on his 400 time.

La Salle's first state championship was won primarily by a kid named Bockenstette who managed to pull off #2. Anchor the 3200, win the 800, 1600 and 3200.

Still quite a meet for DeVier and congrats are in order.

First off... congrats on the fine performance today DeVier. A championship and 2-4th place finishes is quite an accomplishment at the Division I level... that triple really showcases his talent and speed.

Electrically timed? They weren't as late as two years ago.
The state meet has been electronically timed for quite a few years now... at least 14 that I know of.

This is the first year on the new Jesse Ownes track... don't get me started on that...
The track was torn out of Ohio Staduim (:() after the 1998 State meet and the State meet was moved to Dayton for 4 years... OSU couldn't host it because the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium wasn't completed until the summer of 2001. It came back to Ohio State for the 2003 edition and has been (and most likely will always be) at Jesse Owens ever since.
