WR David Boston (First Team All-American, NFL All Pro)

Since the originator of this thread is no longer with us (at least not in name) can't we get a mod to change the title of this thread to remove the "good news" and maybe even "released" portion of it? Any Buckeye being released from any team is definitely not good news. Especially the receiver of the game winning touchdown pass in our last rose bowl victory.

I won't be as harsh to Boston as I was 7 months ago but his NFL career is a huge disappointment. Like I said at the time he could have been a faster version of Terrell Owens. If he didn't decide to use roids he would have been a hall of famer. 71-1156-16.3-7 as a 22 year old and 98-1598-16.3-8 as a 23 year old. Those are sick numbers for somebody at that age. I think Boston was always a headcase. He mouthed off before the 1997 Michigan game and did his celebratory finger point in the 1998 Michigan game. Of course some of this had to do with Cooper's discipline problems. Then he is more worried about how his muscles look than his game during that one season in San Diego. Still this won't stop me from remembering him taking over games against Rice, Pitt, Indiana and Ariz. State in 1996, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan State and Missouri in 1997, and Iowa, Minnesota, WVU, Michigan State, Michigan, and Texas A&M in 1998. Boston was the best receiver I have ever seen at Ohio State.

I respectfully disagree, Terry Glenn is the best I've ever seen as a receiver at OSU.

That guy made catches that I've never seen another human make.

Granted he wasn't a star for 4 years but to me he was the best.

Wasn't it Glenn who got hurt laying out for a catch on the concrete...er... field @ Minnesota...that was a fantastic catch!:oh: :io:

was he the one who made that catch @ Illinois and bounced off their field turf a foot in the air? I know it was either him or Boston......greatest catch I've ever seen from a hospital bed.

I would say that Cris Carter is the best that I've seen. Probably Galloway, Glenn, Boston, and Jenkins would round out my top 5.

Two of the biggest differences in Cris Carter and the other guys are-

1. Cris was a great freshman. He teamed with Mike Lanese to give us a great receiving tandem which also allowed Keith Byers more room to run rampant. Boston, Galloway, Glenn et. al didn't really show up as much until Sophomore and Junior seasons that I can remember.

2. Cris didn't play his senior season when he was getting Heisman hype due to the agent fiasco. That was possibly my most disappointing Buckeye preseason ever. I was totally expecting Carter to rewrite the record books his senior season but it never happened.

The other WR's you guys mention were outstanding and had their own specialty. Galloway would get a step and be gone! Glenn could also run away from defenders (see N.D.) but he was a wonderful aerial acrobat on his catches. Boston would take a slant or a fade and throw a DB down, then house it. Any of these guys are awesome additions to the Buckeye greats, but Cris Carter had the best hands of any human being in any sport that I have ever seen..bar none!

I agree that Carter was good but I think he was better as a pro than a collegian but I agree that you can't go wrong with any of our picks.

Thump,
Check out Chris' career statistics: http://www.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/osu/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/records

Basically he was just as productive in 1985 (58 catches, 950 yards) and 1986 (69 catches, 1127 yards) as anyone else over a two year period. Chris was an All-American. He may not have had the sheer speed of the others; however, whenever the ball was thrown to him in a crowd he always seemed to come down with it. If Chris were to have played his Senior year he would own all the Ohio State receiving records. Unfortunately Chris took some money from an agent and was ruled ineligible for his senior year. Some other players (from other schools) were also suspended for taking agent money. In these cases the NCAA ruled that if the player payed back the money; he could have his eligibility reinstated, and play for the school. Chris and Earl Bruce wanted to pursue this; however, Rick Bay (the AD) nixed the idea. Which was not a real popular decision with Coach Bruce or the fans.

Terry Glenn was one of the best. I never saw that much of his plays, but from the ones i've seen they are very impressive.

I remember earlier in the school year, one of the freshman football players was looking at our sports trophy case and he goes "Hey where's all the stuff for Terry Glenn". I was like "He didn't go here, he went to Brookhaven.....unfortunately.(I don't mean this as a disrespect to 'Haven, I'm just saying i would have loved if he played at Beechcroft instead, we would have won a few more games with him)

Found some interesting facts about him in High School on the OHSAA football records.

From OHSAA Football Records Page

Terry Glenn, Columbus Brookhaven - returned 3 consecutive punts for touchdowns in the 1st quarter vs. Westerville North (1991)

Never have i seen a feat quite like this, three punt returns in a row, all for TDs, all in the first quarter. Amazing!
