Dane Sanzenbacher | WR | Ohio St.
This weekend, Ohio State WR Dane Sanzenbacher once again showed why he will be playing on Sunday in the very near future. On the surface, three catches for 71 yards and a touchdown is nothing earth-shaking. But if you watched the game, you realize just how good he was. As a junior, he proved to be an excellent complement to DeVier Posey, finishing with 36 receptions for a 15.8 yard average and six touchdowns. Able to build on that momentum, his 52 receptions for a 17.1 yard average and 10 touchdowns this season are all tops on the team. As he showed against Michigan, he has very good hands. He's also a very good route-runner, capable of making big plays in the vertical passing game. He has no problem giving up his body to make the catch. And lastly, you love a guy who is a more than willing blocker, which Sanzenbacher was on Saturday.

I any case, the kid can play and he finally gets some recognition for his abilities. I've known him since HS and his game changing ability has been well documented. Just what do you do...? Nice job Dane, can't wait to see you next to Brian Robiskie or Larry Fitzgerald next year.

Sanzenbacher voted Ohio State Most Valuable Player
Release: 12/05/2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State receiver Dane Sanzenbacher was voted 2010 team Most Valuable Player as announced at the 2010 Football Appreciation Banquet this afternoon at the Ohio Union.
Sanzenbacher, a senior from Toledo, also received the Paul Warfield Award as the outstanding wide receiver and the Bo Rein Award as the most inspirational senior (voted by the team). Sanzenbacher led the Buckeyes and ranked second in the Big Ten with 10 touchdown receptions. He finished the regular season with 52 catches for 889 yards for an average of 17.1 yards per catch -- the best in the Big Ten.
Rapp Around: Most Valuable Person
December 08, 2010
A scan of Dane Sanzenbacher?s regular-season statistics show he caught 52 passes for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns with a long reception of 65 yards and an average of 74.1 yards receiving per game.
Those numbers all were good enough to lead Ohio State this season as the Buckeyes posted an 11-1 record, captured a piece of the Big Ten title and are now preparing to play in the Sugar Bowl.
So in that regard it?s not a surprise to hear Sanzenbacher, a senior wide receiver and captain, was named OSU?s MVP at the team?s Football Appreciation Banquet that was held on Sunday at the Ohio Union.
Sanzenbacher had some stiff competition, however, in the form of quarterback Terrelle Pryor ? a finalist for the Big Ten?s Silver Football Award ? as well as emerging tailback Boom Herron and fellow senior co-captains Ross Homan, Brian Rolle and Cameron Heyward.
So considering he rose from that talented group means a lot. And then the worth of Sanzenbacher, who is just 5-11 and 180 pounds, stretches into the stratosphere when you add in that he also happens to be the most well-respected player on the roster.
In fact, the Toledo product made an unheard-of double dip when he also was presented with the Bo Rein Award as the team?s most inspirational senior, another result of a vote by his teammates.
?I?ve been a head coach for 25 years (15 at Youngstown State and 10 at OSU) and all 25 years we?ve had the team vote on the MVP and the most inspirational player, and it has always ended up being clearly two different guys,? coach Jim Tressel said. ?This is the first time in 25 years it was a landslide the same guy. I?ve never seen anything like that.
?You try to spread the wealth and the notoriety and as you looked at it it would have been impossible to do that is this case. So for Dane to not only recognized for his great play on the field as an MVP but also the fact that he inspired guys just through who he is, that just tells you how extraordinary Dane Sanzenbacher is.?

"I love Dane and I think every guy on this team feels the same way," wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell said in the spring. "How could you not like a guy who works his butt off like that, performs on the field, makes sure to take care of his academics and always has time to be a good teammate? We're very lucky to have him."

As a coach what more could you ask for in a player? As fellow team mate what better player to go into battle with? As a fan what better player to bring my Buckeye pride to the maximum? I have enjoyed these past 4 years seeing the rise of Dane Sanzenbacher. I look forward to seeing what he can do with the opportunities in the next level. If I know Dane, he'll continue to impress coaches, players and fans in much the same way.
