WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

Dane is gonna be a huge loss for us next year, more than most people think. He's Pryors go to guy, and when he needs a first down he's throwing to dane. I really hope guys like James Louis and Chris fields see how dane plays, and try to learn from him, and play tough like him.

I think Stoneburner has been groomed a bit to be the 3rd down guy. If Philly Brown can prove himself a deep ball threat that requires over/under coverage, Posey will still require a safety to stay too deep to cover the TE. Jake will likely see a lot of LB coverage or a short zone and his height will be a big advantage. He gets down field pretty well for a TE.

But, I do agree that Dane will be a big loss. In many ways he's been the heart and soul of the offense over the past two seasons. I hope the whole team has learned from the way Dane plays. He's a gamer.

His impact this year has been to will this team to win every weekend. I know that sounds strange, but every really good team has this type of guy. He makes things happen and players follow that lead. Future Buckeyes should try to live by his example on and off the field because it goes further than just games played on Saturday. He has what coaches want. He shows up every week with the same steely resolve and get results. That spirit and attitude is what a Buckeye is all about. This team never gives up and Dane is one of the reasons why Michigan will never beat Ohio State! A Gamer indeed and the epotome of what every young footballer would want to emulate. Now just do it.

Go Bucks. :osu:

Sanzenbacher close to end as a Buckeye

COLUMBUS - Greg Dempsey had heard all the pre-emptive praise before. This kid or that kid was coming up through the ranks, and he was destined to be the next star at Central Catholic and make the head coach look good in the process.

So when a couple friends of Dempsey's brother commented that a certain grade school player had a lot of ability plus those innate kinds of football smarts that you can't teach, Dempsey was intrigued. But he would withhold judgment. Sometimes a kid could chase the hype and the build-up for years but never quite win that race.

"I saw him at quarterback as a freshman, and then I thought that maybe those guys knew what they were talking about," Dempsey said. "As a sophomore, we moved him to receiver at practice on a Monday, and he started for us that Friday night. He ended up doing a lot of things to make his coach look like a genius."

That player Dempsey talks about will start for Ohio State Saturday when the Buckeyes face Michigan in Ohio Stadium. It will be the 48th game he has played for the Buckeyes, his 12th as a captain, and the second-last one in what has been a brilliant career.

Dane Sanzenbacher has been making the OSU coaches look good as well.

"He is one of those rare kids that have the qualities that you can't define," Dempsey said. "It's the ultimate combination - he has the ability, and he just gets it. I imagine it was the same way for Ohio State as it was for us. You see right away that he's a great athlete, but you really don't know what's coming, until you watch him play the game."

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez has been reviewing a season's worth of film on Sanzenbacher and the Buckeyes in preparation for the 107th meeting between the rivals.

"Sanzenbacher, I think, is one of the best receivers in the country, not just in the league," Rodriguez said.

Well, Rich Rod better make sure their secondary is ready for what may prove to be a very productive day for Sanzo. He needs 182 yards to reach 1000 this year and I couldn't think of a better defense to achieve that with than Saturday's opponent. If Pryor has time, Dane should be very active. Of course, this will also create some opportunities for Devier, Taurian, Stoney, and Corey.

It's not only about playing The Game in the Shoe as a senior but also in making sure the tradition is understood and carried on by next year's team. Dane gets it and his leadership and example will be felt long after he leaves.
