WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

Does anybody else think he looks like a QB with that #12?

Number 12 was Zwick's of last year but Dane is a WR that can throw the ball. Interesting though he did play that position at Toledo Central Catholic as a senior when the number one QB got dinged up. His first pass as the QB was for a TD IIRC from my completely unbiased viewpoint. :wink2: I could a trick play in the future (a perfect spiral to Saine for a TD). Is it too soon to start dreaming?

He does look better in this picture than yesterday's, he could use a few lbs but he's always had that "Great Dane" appearance (lean and leggy).

Just going by the look in his eyes, this kid is coming in full of confidence and ready to go to work. I'm sure he will remember his first Buckeye practice for a long, long time.

I've seen that same look of intensity during track season. He know he's being tested and the focus for Dane is to show everyone what he's got and edge out the competition. Granted the competition is stiff, but he has that competitive edge as we will see.

Tressel has already noticed the fire and spirit of the '07 class and he mention that in this article from the Columbus Dispatch.

The Columbus Dispatch : Notebook: Buckeyes freshmen hit ground running after summer school

All summer, players kept telling Ohio State coach Jim Tressel, "Wait until you see these freshmen," and yesterday, the freshmen did not disappoint.

Bucknuts.com - Tressel Talks Shop On First Day Of Practice

Tressel was noticeably pleased with how the Buckeyes performed as a whole during their conditioning test. The coach discussed the true freshmen who caught his eye on Monday.

“Well, just watching the running this morning, Dane Sanzenbacher and Taurian Washington, they toyed with it. It was very impressive,” Tressel said. “Brandon Saine, it was kind of a jog in the park for him because the tailbacks run with what we call the ‘lions’ which is the middle group. And Brandon is faster than all of the ‘cheetahs’ so it wasn’t real challenging for him. But he is just so smooth. Cameron Heyward was very impressive running. You can go down that freshman group and it’s kind of what our older guys said they would be. They are a pretty impressive group.”

And this article from the Dayton Daily News, Tressel is watching for spark.

This is only the second day of practice, the football drought is over! :osu:

Tressel on Sanzenbacher

Just saw Dane in his uniform on TV and the last name more than fills up the back! Very Cool. He was posing with Brandon Saine. 13ABC Action news also interviewed Coach Tressel and his words about Dane were:

...He's in tremendous condition, he can run and run and run. And he can catch the football...

All that high school track are paying some benefits now.

Dane spoke about this day and putting on the uniform and is proud to be part of the Buckeye Family. Toledo couldn't have a better representative in Columbus. Makes me very proud. Go Bucks! :osu:

Sanzenbacher steps up game
OSU freshman's best chance appears to be at wide receiver

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS - Nobody makes the leap from high school football to an elite college program in a single, smooth stride. There are steps to take, hurdles to clear, bridges to traverse. For former Central Catholic standout Dane Sanzenbacher, the road from being a two-time City League player of the year to a place on the depth chart with the Ohio State Buckeyes has been a predictably uphill one, complete with steep climbs and switchbacks. But as the Buckeyes work through preseason training camp and inch closer to the first game of 2007, Sanzenbacher has met every challenge, and seized every opportunity. "The game is a lot faster at this level, and if you are going to play at a place like Ohio State, then you have to respond to that and step up your play," Sanzenbacher said. "You are surrounded by great players at every position, every day."

Doing his best

"I think that it is all pretty much up in the air right now since we've only had a limited number of practices," Sanzenbacher said. "But they've made it clear that everyone is going to get an opportunity to show what they can do. And then when we get closer to the start of the season, I'm sure the coaches will make a decision on all that. Right now, I don't worry about it. I just focus on doing my best today."

Dane's best is better than most, but that's what got him to tOSU. Now he finds himself among some of the best in college football, and now is when the great become better and the best awaits those who can adapt and make the step up to a higher level. Dane has proven history of stepping up and giving 110%. So as his test continues, we wait to see the eventual outcome, his debut on the field.

I know that the players are instructed not to read these forums, but just in case some does, I'd like to offer to all the benefit of my grandfathers wisdom when he said something like this:

" Bub, you will be a success if you can see yourself doing it. It can be anything that lights your fire."

or from Mike Mellville

"You are doing your best when you are trying to improve what you are doing"

Go Bucks, Go Dane, be your best :osu:

After seeing him play up here this doesn't really surprise me. He is gifted.

I watched him through the playoffs last year and he was the best player on the field every time. He has an uncanny knack for making plays time and time again. Ball thrown too high, no problem = adjustement, catch; ball thrown behind him, no problem = adjustment, catch - he has unbelievable control of his body while running and jumping.

As many have said, he is not the biggest, strongest or fastest but he definitely makes plays and is very disciplined on his routes.

I was skeptical when the offer was made but not after I saw him - no brainer.

Congrats Dane.

Dane is now the #3 WR....

Will have more later.

Just getting caught up here, was this move based on Ray Small's injury? I thought that Torrence was being moved to that position. Good opportunity for Dane, let's keep him healthy. He really is a playmaker, this will be very fun to watch as the season unfolds! I'm holding back here...

Go get em Dane.

Well if you think about it, after Small, he's probably the best fit for the slot after all our other receivers. He's the perfect size(not too big like Dukes,Lyons, or Washington), he's great in traffic, and he has the fundamentals down necessary for the slot position(great route runner which Torrence might not be yet).
