WR Chris Fields (official thread)

I reaalize what you're saying, crazy, and he is a fine player. In the right settings, he's just amazing to watch with that speed.

Thing that gets me is that he's never played hoops. Basketball is big at Harvey and they've had some great teams in recent years. I've always thought Chris would have been a helluva threat to go 'Tyus Edney" everytime he got a rebound.

Peace.

There's been a lot of talk lately about whether a "gentleman's agreement" exists in the Big Ten regarding ending the recruitment of a player once he issues an oral commitment to another school. The end of the recruiting trail can provide more fireworks. But laying that early groundwork is what matters most.

Still ... OSU commit Chris Fields, a receiver at Harvey High School, said a few days ago that Michigan was hoping to speak with him this week.

"They're trying to persuade me," Fields said, "which is probably not going to happen."

TRACK INSIDER
Harvey trying to rotate Fields

Thursday, May 08, 2008Tim Warsinskey
Plain Dealer Reporter
Everyone wants Painesville Harvey junior Chris Fields' time.
Not some of it. All of it.
Track, baseball and football coaches all see the same thing in Fields: a potential for athletic greatness, if he could just devote more time to their sport.

"If we he had him for more time - and I'm sure the baseball coach is thinking the same thing - his potential is unlimited if he could stay with it," Harvey track coach Mark Yocum said.
Yocum is right, that's exactly what Harvey baseball coach Jeff Haas thinks.
"I personally think Chris can be a draft pick if he sticks with it," said Haas, a former Indians draft pick out of Cleveland State University. "It all depends on if he sticks with it. He's a five-tool player."

I keep watching this kid and he's gett'in a little "too big" for his britches. As the baseball season goes on, Chris is impressing as one of those kids that just keeps getting better. I guess I no longer Coach because I lost my ability to see "unlimited potential" since most kids peak-out when they're about 15 years old. Chris led off the second game of a doubleheader on saturday with a home run, then hit a 3-run jack later in the same inning. That's 2-2, with 2 Dings and 4 RBI's in the FIRST inning!!!!

I hate to eat my words and say this, but this kid could, and I stress only "could" get an offer after next baseball season that sends him a different direction. I wouldn't bet a nickel on it, but his numbers keep racking up, and he's only a junior.

Peace.

Who was the double header against btw? Oh and also, has Harvey moved to the CVC yet or is that next year?

Alot of shuffling coming about amongst the CVC, PAC, and NEC lately. I heard Geneva and University were joining the PAC and Harvey along with another were joining the CVC(or something like that).

Geneva is also getting that huge 100million dollar sports complex in the next two years which the schools will be using so I am interested in seeing what that does for their athletic programs. The school used to be a pretty good football school in northeast ohio in the late 90's(4 straight years they finished 5th in the region for D2 and back then only the top 4 went) but has since fell off due to administrative issues IMO. However a new stadium, and the current changes within the administration I think are going to help in the longrun.

Here's a link to all the Ohio conferences. Looks like Harvey is staying put, but I can't say for sure.

Upon further investigation, yes Harvey is moving by 2010

National nomination
Harvey junior wide receiver Chris Fields has been nominated to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio in January 2009.
The Ohio State recruit is one of 19 players from Ohio - and one of more than 400 student-athletes nationally - nominated for the elite all-star game. A celebration of Fields' nomination will be held Tuesday at Chestnut Elementary School.

Sure.

Just a reference to the years that I spent involved with Painesville baseball. Got the chance to watch Chris some up through the ranks and his speed and defense were always impressive, but the hardest thing to predict, to me anyway, about a player at any level is what his power numbers are going to project to in the future. Mind you, Chris is still growing and will come to TOSU much bigger than the 185 he sits at. Chris finished the season with 6 jacks in 71 official at-bats. Not too shabby for an 11th grader. Next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him crank out 10-12 in the same amount of at-bats. If you saw him play a few years back, it would have been dang near impossible to predict the power he is displaying.

Hope that answers your question.

Peace.

Despite not winning the championship, Harvey had a solid overall day and advanced several athletes to the Ravenna Regional. Ian Jones won the shot put (46-10 1⁄2), and Chris Bowler won the 110 hurdles (15.19). The Red Raiders also won the 4x100 (44.65) and 4x200 (1:32.20).
Junior Chris Fields, an Ohio State football recruit, ran on both relays. Now that his baseball season has ended, he's looking forward to concentrating on just one sport.

"This is the first year I competed in two sports in the spring, and it was easier than I thought it would be," Fields said. "I also have a job, so that left me little free time. But there was no way I was going to quit track or baseball. I knew I had to stick with it because I had a job to do."

Ohio State football recruit Chris Fields, who also played baseball this spring, ran on the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays, but a quadriceps injury caused the Harvey junior to finish seventh in the 100 at 11.28, far off the 10.74 he ran at the Northeastern Conference meet. He did not compete in the 200.

"He tweaked his quad in the last baseball game," Yocum said. "He said it was hurting him pretty good. He didn't get out the blocks quick."
