WR Bam Childress (Official Thread)

Ross signed with the Chargers, so I'm guessing he's in San Diego...for now, anyway.

Childress's numbers today:
2nd in the Pats receving Corps today with 3 catches for 39 yrds. Also returned 1 kick for 21 yrds.

He looked pretty good, lets hope it stays that way.
If Bam sticks with the Pats, it'll be because of his play on special teams.

Every time i see Krenzel in a football uniform i got to think to myself... Is this the last time? That dude cracks me up... Never looks pretty but somehow gets something done...
yeah, but you want to know the really funny part? Krenzel is the ONLY QB for the Chicago Bears since the start of the '02 season that has a winning record (3-2)... they've had 7 or 8 different starters in that time period... and none of them did better than CK...

knock him all you want, but the kid's a fucking winner... even when he plays for the shitass Bears...

thanks...

as for Bam, if he can go out and put on a good performance in the next few preseason games, i think he can make the roster, which would be excellent...

IMHO, if anyone can get him playing up to his potential, it's Bill Bellichek...

aside: it's kinda funny how the Brown's new coach is a BB protege... they've come full circle...

Seriously...last year announcers couldn't stop talking about how Krenzel was 500th in line to play and that he looked like shit and the Bears couldn't wait to get the guy who was 499th on the depth chart back....

Well, look at what you dumbass Bears did, you took out the guy who won you 3 of your 5 wins, and he did it in less than 1/3rd of the season. It took the other lackies 11 games to get the other 2 wins. Sure he plays ugly, but he wins. Now look at what the Bears have at QB, good luck in another 5 win season

Rookie WR Childress the ying to Cassel's yang

FOXBORO -- WHEN OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS, PLAYERS LIKE PATRIOTS ROOKIE QUARTERBACK MATT CASSEL -- WITH THEIR LIMITED COLLEGE RESUMES -- KNOW THEY HAVE TO ANSWER IT.

Friday night, it was obvious that opportunity was knocking on a couple of doors -- and Cassel wasn't the only one answering.

At just about the same time as Cassel was opening the front door, diminutive wide receiver/kick returner Brandon 'Bam' Childress was twisting the knob at the back of the house.

With fellow wide receivers Troy Brown and Deion Branch standing around in street clothes, Childress wasn't about to squander the chance.
While most of the buzz has focused on Cassel's 13-for-21, 135-yard performance in the Patriots' 23-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Childress, too, made a strong statement.
Childress finished with three catches for 39 yards, including a 23-yarder, the longest of the night.
Childress and Cassel have become very close both on and off the field. Then again, the two have a lot in common. Both played at two of the nation's largest programs, and both in the arrived in the NFL with virtually no or very sparse stats from college.
And, both have the number 33 frozen on their collegiate football resumes.
Cassel, after all, threw only 33 passes in four years at the University of Southern California, and Childress caught only 33 passes as a four-year member of the Ohio State Buckeyes (he also had nine kickoff returns for 159 yards).
"They said that Matt didn't play a lot and I didn't play a lot," Childress said. "But we're getting opportunities to show what we can do. Matt's making the best of his chances and I'm making of mine. We're doing real well. We talk all the time that we don't want to get satisfied. We want to keep getting better and keep on going."
They'll get another chance to impress when the Patriots host their first preseason game tonight at Gillette Stadium against New Orleans (8, Fox).
The big catch for Childress -- who prefers the name Bam, as in The Flintstone's Bam Bam, and is first cousins with Detroit Lions linebacker Boss Bailey and Denver Broncos defensive back Champ Bailey -- came in the third quarter. Facing third-and-long, Cassel, working out of the shotgun, hit Childress, who slithered his way through defenders.
"Just like what coach (Bill) Belichick's said: 'It's more what you can do after the catch than anything (else),'" said Childress, Ohio's 1999 Mr. Football. "I want to show people that, after I catch the ball, I can make people miss and get up the field and get yards.
"I knew it was like third-and-17. I knew I was going to have to make somebody miss or a couple of guys miss and get up field. I tried to do my best to show that I can make plays after I catch the ball."
Not to be left out of special teams, Childress took his lone kickoff return back 21 yards.
Although he wasn't signed until July 24, Childress has had a strong camp.
"He didn't have the benefit of all of the mini-camp installations and teaching and all of that," Belichick said. "I think that he's a smart kid. He picked it up well. He has some quickness, even though he is short, he has a little thickness to him and a little bit of strength."
Though listed at 5-foot-10 and 185, Childress is closer to the 5-6, 5-7 neighborhood. He's quick to acknowledge the discrepancy, too.
"No ... I'm about 6-2, 6-1," he joked.
Childress, who never said how tall he really is, said that the NFL is big into exaggeration.
"A lot of the guys that are in the NFL (are) really not that big," Childress said. "Troy (Brown), Deion (Branch), (Kansas City Chief) Dante Hall and (Pittsburgh Steeler) Antwaan Randall El, they're not big at all. They just use their quickness and they know how to play the game. That's what I'm trying to do right now -- just learn how to play the game and use my strengths."

Childress looked good today - well as much as he could with lil PT. He amassed 3 receptions (a key 1st down in the final ticks) as wella s 1 PR for 3yrds. and a kick return for 31 yrds. I have a strong feeling the boy will get picked up by the Pats here soon. His size may be below protocol for NFL recievers, but he is showing heart and continual knowledge - and sometimes that matters most!

PS. Anyone wanna say why I got dinged in this thread for a white chicklet? and without leaving a handle/message for it??

First of all, if they didn't leave a message, you can't tell if they approved or disapproved, when the chicklet is white. That means someone with low rep, gave you rep. Could be good or bad. It doesn't count worth a fuck toward your points. Bitching about rep will usually result in several reds being volleyed your way though.

Bam did much better than his numbers indicated. On Fluties TD pass, Bam was wide open in the middle of the fiedl, but Fluties short ass locked on to one reciever, and threw up a jump ball into tight coverage. Bam was running good routes, and played nearly the entire second half. He just didn't get very many looks, due to Cassel being on his ass, and Flutie sucking.

I wasnt bitching, just at the time I didnt know about "white chicklets" - I thought they were bad. I had only provided stats on his performance and said some good things about the kid. I then checked my Rep Log and noticed that I got "feedback" that wasnt green for this thread. Ease up man, Im still a lil new to this and just wondered why someone didnt sign it and give reasons which (at the time I thought I was given a "bad" reputation).
