WR Anthony Gonzalez (2005 All B1G, US Congressman)

Anthony Gonzalez solid in return

Anthony Gonzalez hauled in four passes for 55 yards in Indianapolis's 30-17 win over the Texans.

Our View: Gonzalez outplayed his stat sheet in his first game since Week 1, making an outstanding diving catch and routinely providing Peyton Manning with a solid option. He was targeted just six times, but with Dallas Clark (wrist) out for the year, Gonzalez could see more action as he continues to rebuild his chemistry with Manning. He's not worth starting yet, but he's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Knee injury plagues Colts' Gonzo again
Updated: Friday, 05 Nov 2010
By: Anthony Calhoun

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Colts continue to suffer with injuries. 24-Hour News 8 has learned that wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez could be out for an extended period of time due to a knee injury he suffered against the Houston Texans during Monday Night Football.

Sources tell 24-Hour News 8 that the knee injury could keep Gonzalez out for several weeks.

The wide receiver missed most of last year because of a knee injury and only played two games this year. Gonzalez didn't practice with the team on Thursday.

Anthony Gonzalez has PCL injury
By John Clayton
ESPN.com

The Indianapolis Colts could be down at least eight players for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, including wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who could be out for several weeks with a PCL injury.

Week 9 is full of surprises, as ESPN.com's John Clayton notes -- including an AFC West showdown between Oakland and Kansas City. Story

Gonzalez was injured Monday night against Houston on a tackle by Texans safety Bernard Pollard. Earlier this week, head coach Jim Caldwell said that the receiver was "banged up a little bit."

Gonzalez, who had been suffering from a high ankle sprain earlier this season, is in jeopardy of missing the rest of the season.

Colts lose Anthony Gonzalez for season
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 6, 2010

The injury bug just keeps biting the Indianapolis Colts.

Today the Colts announced that wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez has been placed on injured reserve with a left knee injury, ending his 2010 season.

The team's official announcement makes a specific point of saying that Gonzalez suffered the injury "when being tackled out of bounds," making clear that the Colts think the hit delivered by Texans safety Bernard Pollard on Monday night should have drawn a penalty flag and a fine.

But the play wasn't flagged, and Pollard escaped a fine this week as well. So there's a clear disconnect between what the Colts think "tackled out of bounds" means and what the league thinks it means.

In any event, Gonzalez's season has now been cut short for the second straight year. In 2009 and 2010 combined, Gonzalez played in a grand total of three games and caught all of five passes.

Damn, Gonzo just can't catch a break. :(

No doubt, that hit was way late and should easily have been flagged and fined....Interesting though that Gonzo played after that.....

I do fear that this may lead to the end of Gonzo's career at least with the Colts....

Gonzalez wants a healthy new year
Colts receiver frustrated by 2 lost seasons, the first of his career

Injured Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez is confident he will be healthy for 2011. Question is, will he play here or somewhere else?

An escalator in the final year of his contract boosts his salary to about $2.76 million. It's a lot of money for a fourth-year pro reduced by knee and ankle injuries to three games in two seasons.

Gonzalez doesn't worry about possibly being released.

"My level of concern is low," he said. "Not because it's not possible. I'm not ignorant to the business side of this game. If that happens, it happens.

"I know this, I'm going to work and rehab and do the things I have to do to be successful next year. Whether that's here or somewhere else is not really up to me very much. It really isn't. In that sense, I'm not concerning myself with it, I'm really not.

"I've got other things to worry about. I'll stick with the things I can control."

Gonzalez ended up on injured reserve again after suffering ligament damage in his left knee against Houston on Nov. 1. He was stepping out of bounds when he took a hit from safety Bernard Pollard, who was not penalized.

Notebook: Gonzalez says Colts will be ready
Feb 25, 2011

In the event of a lengthy NFL lockout, players might not be allowed to meet for workouts because of insurance issues, but Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez doesn't see readiness as a concern.

"We're a team, fortunately, of players that are self-motivators and self-starters," Gonzalez said Thursday after joining a player contingent that met with the NFL's competition committee at the Westin Hotel. "I don't see there ever being an issue where our guys would be out of shape or wouldn't be prepared.

"If there's something organized, I'm sure I'll be at it. I fall back, from a Colts perspective, on the fact I believe in our guys . . . to prepare and to come in ready, whether the season starts Aug. 1 or Sept. 1."

Collie revealed that Gonzalez, who has missed 29 games over the past two years, sounds ready to go.

"He feels great. Anthony is a wonderful player when he is healthy," said Collie. "He's explosive, and we're hoping to have a healthy year from him and get a lot of guys healthy. A lot of guys were hurt last year that we needed. But if we definitely get him back, we are going to have a powerful receiving corps."
