WR Anthony Gonzalez (2005 All B1G, US Congressman)

Bucklion;1766142; said:
they don't want him playing well enough or often enough to threaten Collie or Garcon.
How does this make any sense? This is the NFL, and all three are Colts property. Why would they put be afraid to play a superior player??

That doesn't make any sense. Collie and Garcon are great receivers. I fail to see how Gonzo is being screwed here. If he was better than those two guys and could help the team more, he'd be playing over them.

Colts WR Gonzalez out for Week Two; SS Sanders getting second
Posted Sept. 14, 2010
By PFW staff

The Colts announced Tuesday that WR Anthony Gonzalez will miss Week Two's game against the Giants with a high ankle sprain and SS Bob Sanders will meet with Dr. James Andrews to get a second opinion on his torn biceps tendon.

Gonzalez left the season opener after suffering the injury. He started just one game in 2009 before suffering a season-ending knee injury. It's been reported that Gonzalez has been frustrated with his reserve role in the offense with WR Austin Collie getting more reps after WR Pierre Garcon was injured.

Gonzalez still gimpy

Wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez hasn't had an ankle injury since he was a high school freshman, so he's flying somewhat blind with the high, right ankle sprain suffered when he was tackled during the Sept. 12 season opener at Houston.

"They're saying four to six (weeks)," Gonzalez said. "I obviously hope to be on the short end of that. Everything I'm doing is designed to get back as soon as possible.

"The doctors and trainers tell me I'm ahead of schedule."

If he's out four weeks, he could return for the Oct. 17 game at Washington. The Colts' bye week is Oct. 24.

It has been a tough couple of seasons for Gonzalez. He missed all but part of the first game last season with a right knee injury.

"I've been down the rehab road before, so I think I unfortunately know how to keep my spirits up when hurt," Gonzalez said. "We'll keep on trucking."

Gonzalez, Sanders still out this week
Updated: Tuesday, 28 Sep 2010
By AJ Colley

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Colts confirmed several updates on player injuries Tuesday.

Colts linebacker Kavell Conner has undergone surgery for a fractured foot. He will be out this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez is continuing to rehabilitate an ankle injury and will be out this week, as well. Defensive back Bob Sanders, who has been recovering from a bicep injury, will continue to sit out this week.

Anthony Gonzalez will return to "on-field work" this week

The Colts continue to employ the NFL's version of Glasnost, providing on Tuesday of each week an injury update that they're simply not required to provide.

The biggest news? Receiver Anthony Gonzalez "will progress his rehabilitation to on-field work." It could mean that he'll engage in individual drills, and it could mean that he'll be returning to practice.

As Rosenthal pointed out earlier, Gonzalez participated in Monday's walk-through-style practice. But such sessions aren't very demanding

Colts notebook: Gonzalez closer but still not sure when he will return from high ankle sprain
Colts receiver takes part in drills for first time since Sept. 12 high ankle sprain
Oct 14, 2010
Written by
Phil Richards

To borrow wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez's phrase, he is "taking the next step." There's just no telling whether it will put him on a path leading to FedEx Field on Sunday night, when the Indianapolis Colts meet the Washington Redskins.

"Honestly, it's really up in the air," Gonzalez said of his playing prospects Wednesday, when he participated in some but not all drills during his first full on-field workout since suffering a high ankle sprain in the Colts' season opener Sept. 12.

High ankle sprains typically require four to six weeks to recover. Gonzalez is at the short end of that spectrum. He has progressed from the training room to the weight room to straight-ahead running, and now to the practice field. Through it all, he has participated in meetings and off-field work and spent much of his time away from practice studying film of the NFL's best receivers. So whenever he is cleared, he will be ready to go.

It's just hard to say when that might be. How his ankle feels depends on when you ask. This week will be a day-to-day, even a drill-to-drill, test.

"Some days it feels good. Some days it doesn't," said Gonzalez, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first quarter of the Colts' 2009 season opener. "Some things cause you to pick up a lot of soreness. Some things, for whatever reason, don't bother you at all.

"It's really just trying to adjust to the way your body is now as opposed to what it is normally. The reality is high ankle sprains are not 100 percent (healed) for almost a year. Eventually, your body just adjusts and the soreness is at a level you can sort of go through."

Anthony Gonzalez tweaks ankle injury
By Adam Schefter
ESPN

Indianapolis Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who is being counted on to help replace Austin Collie, who recently underwent thumb surgery and will likely miss a few weeks, recently tweaked the high ankle sprain that he had been nursing since early in the season, according to a source familiar with the situation.

It does not appear to be a major injury at this time, but it is notable considering what the Colts receivers have gone through in recent days.

Besides the injury to Collie, the Colts also lost Dallas Clark for the season when the tight end was placed on injured reserve with a wrist injury.

Gonzalez might not be ready to play as soon as Indianapolis would like and it could be the latest setback for a wide receiver that has had plenty of them the past two seasons.

The Colts have a bye this week and return to host the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football in Week 8.

The Colts' first-round pick in 2007, Gonzalez missed almost all of last season and spraining knee ligaments in the season opener and later having arthroscopic surgery on the knee.

Anthony Gonzalez expects to play this week
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 25, 2010

Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez said he expects to play this week despite a report that he aggravated his high ankle sprain.

"I saw that little report," Gonzalez said Monday via John Oesher of Indianapolis Colts Examiner. "I have no idea what that is. No tweaking. Nothing. I have no idea where it came from."

(Yikes. He practically broke out "rumor mongerer.")

A healthy Gonzalez would go a long towards replacing Dallas Clark and wide receiver Austin Collie. Gonzalez can play the slot, with Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon on the outside. Throw in a few young promising tight ends and its not like the Colts receiver spots are barren.

The problem is that Gonzalez hasn't been truly healthy in a long time. He made a lot of promises about returning during last season, but never made it back. He got hurt in Week One this year for the second straight season.

Report: Colts WR Gonzalez is 'ready' for MNF
Oct. 27, 2010

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Anthony Gonzalez (ankle) will be "ready" to go for Monday Night Football.

The Colts didn't issue an injury report on Wednesday, but it sounds like Gonzalez's reported high ankle sprain aggravation was very minor in nature. Gonzalez hasn't played a full game since the 2008 season

It seems from listening to the Sports Talk Radio shows when I was in Indy earlier in the week that folks forget that Gonzo was a first round pick. Everyone was very fixated on the loss of Clark and Collie.

Time for Gonzo to shut some folks up....
