WR Anthony Gonzalez (2005 All B1G, US Congressman)

I think Gonzo is shiftier...he makes directional cuts that few, if any other, WRs in college can make.

Holmes was one of those rare types who can shift without losing any speed. Gonzo has nice change of direction abilities and balance, but he is not as explosive and shifty as Holmes.

How many times did Gonzo get deep? How 'bout Holmes? "Shifty" is great, but "separation" gets you first-round jack. Gonzo needs to post a nice forty-time to get into elite draft status. JMHO, of course....

Separation is what gets you the catch, the shift is what you do to fake out the safety and dive into the endzone. That's what Holmes did the best.

Edit: but the shift didn't always end well for Holmes as he was constantly flagged for diving into the endzone.

I remember Holmes going deep plenty. He ran in the low 4.3's at OSU's pro day so speed was never a problem.

Didn't Gonzo test last year just for fun and run something like a 4.39? I'n almost positive I heard that during a broadcast but of course the announcer could have been mistaken. Regardless, Gonzo will need a great workout to somehow be drafted 1st round. I would take C. Johnson, Jarret, Ginn, Meachem, and possibly Rice(not sure if he's going pro?) over Gonzo as of now...which would project him 2nd round in my books. Not bad but I think his stock could improve a bit with one more year here...not a ton but he could move into late 1st round with another year imo.

Exactly - that's why Holmes was a first rounder, and Gonzo still has something to prove to the NFL scouts.

Agree with that statement 100%. Furthermore, after watching some of his competition today in CJ and DJ, an awful lot of teams would need wideouts in order for Gonzo to sniff first round status.

SPORTS SPOTLIGHT TODD PORTER

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Something makes Ohio State's Anthony Gonzalez tick differently. The Buckeye wide receiver sleeps in a tent-like hyperbaric chamber. Unlike most college football stars, he doesn't want to be just a NFL player. Gonzalez wants to be a judge.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The jerseys and shoulder pads and game plans were packed up and shipped from Ohio to Arizona. So was something else Ohio State wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez must have to get ready for the big game.

His hyperbaric chamber.
