1998 Michigan State - Beh... was the former crown holder of the most disappointing game for me as a buckeye fan until this past January.

My freshman year at Ohio State. I had a ticket to every home game in the 'Shoe that year, and this is the game I felt that I didn't need to attend. I let a buddy get in with my ticket, and went home. I still feel like a part of me going home was why we got beat. I know it's crazy. You won't change my mind. Still pissed....

I know why: the talent level of that team was simply incredible. The best of the Tressel Era (yes, even better than 2002. 2002 had those intangibles that put them over the top, though).

That was the chosen year.

I wanted nothing more than for Hawk, Carp, Whitner, Youboty, and 'Tone to see the championship game.

Air Force - Liberty Bowl - 1990 - Lost 23-11.

The worst part about this was that it was the end of a Chinese Water Torture season.

Open the season with two creditable wins vs. Texas Tech and BC.

Then it gets worse.

Lost to USC in Columbus in a storm shortened game, and this was not one of USCs great years, they ended up 8-4-1.
Lost to Illinois 20-31 in Columbus (who ended up 8-4)
Tied Indiana 27-27 who finished 6-5 (!!!!)
They then trotted off 5 big wins against teams in the Big 10.

Then as so often under Coop they fucked it up against TSUN 13-16 ...

Then did nothing - absolutely nothing - to redeem themselves against an over-matched Air Force team on December 27th in Memphis, TN.

An absolutely shameful display with little inspiration. All too typical of a Cooper team with a post TSUN loss hangover. With the win Air Force finished 7-5, that's right, the Buckeyes came in with the better record at 7-3-1, only to drop a turd in Memphis.

The only thing that kept me me from putting hard metal objects straight through the screen was that I was watching it on the Mother-In-Law's TV.

It was also the first year that I declaimed that with that type of display Cooper would be gone by next season. Boy, did I have to wait a long time.

1969 loss at Michigan
1971 Rose Bowl loss to Stanford
1976 Rose Bowl loss to UCLA (whom we killed earlier that year on the same fucking field)

The 69 loss and the UCLA one were my first 2, and it still haunts me thinking about the "Sensibaugh safety blitz" tactic in the Stanford game(which Stanford killed us with).

1980 Rose Bowl, watching USC march right down the field in the waning moments of the game to deny OSU a NC.

5 Straight losses to Illinois during Coop's tenure were even worse than the UM losses. Keith Byars called out Coop in the press(rightly so).

The losses to UM during Coops era and the bowl games(Air Force tops that list).

77 Oklahoma game in the Shoe. I headed out of my seat to get a good seat at the bar(obviously the game was over, right)and heard this collective sound in the Shoe. I run to one of the field openings only to see the Sooners kick the winning FG after recovering the onside kick and OSU loses a game they had locked up.

Tom Dardens "non interfererence call" at UM.

This past NC game, enough said on that one.

1) 1979 loss to Clemson. The way that ended so poorly and a great man, yet again, showed his fatal flaw. Man that hurt more than any other for me....until...

2) the very next year...1980 Rose Bowl. As others have said, Charles White ripping off runs and ruining a National Championship was sooo painful.

3) 1998 - MSU. One of the most talented teams ever. And up by quite a few points before the meltdown. Much like baseball needed the McGwire/Sosa season to "bring it back", I needed 2002. The time between 1998 and 2002...well Jimmy Carter would have said I was in a malaise and that would have been putting it kindly.

6. The PSU heartbreaker where Curtis Enis (?!?!) ran all over us and the friggn announcers repeatedly reminded us that Ohio State blew Enis' recruitment by an unfortunate spelling error...

5. Biak for 313

4. The David Boston vs. Charles Woodson game.

3. MSU (loved this tOSU team)

2. The Hamby drop (it still plays in slow motion in my head - I was in that end zone. Still can't believe it)

1. FL

In retrospect, with all the truly special talent in the 90's, it's still frustrating that there isn't more to show from that decade.

For me it has to be Texas 05' and Penn State 05'...

I was at the Texas game myself and the hype the months before all the way up to the game was incredible! When I got into Ohio and Columbus specifically the town had a buzz and I had no doubt we'd win the game. I don't think I've ever heard such a noise as when AJ Hawk made the interception that game and returned it deep into Texas' territory. If we could've just put a couple touchdowns in instead of 3's we would've won! What was so dissappointing was that it felt like we had control of the game and had it won then all the sudden we miss a FG and they score late over top of Nate Salley (Right in front of my seats by the way) to win the game. Just seeing the dejectiveness from everyone leaving the stadium that night was rough!

The penn state game just because I knew we'd already lost 1 game that season and the team we had was un real that year! I just didn't want the season to fall apart!
