Worst Bands Currently on Radio

what do you consider hip-hop? hip hop, to me, is a word that encompasses every "urban" music from edgy r&b to straight gangsta shit.:tongue2:
Rap is most of the stuff you see on BET and MTV. G-Unit and whatnot, even one or two of The Roots' songs. Hip-hop, at least music-wise, is MCing, beatboxing, and DJing. Like Nas, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Wu Tang.

OK, i see what youre saying. I just thought hip-hop was referring to all urban music. but this aint the first time ive been wrong...and im sure it wont be the last.

Then thier deffinately aint no "BANDS" in rap then. unless, of course, you count puff daddy's..er..p.diddy's...er sean p.....never fucking mind

obviously we're discussing our tastes here, but you claim that white stripes, coldplay, and u2 are the worst bands you can currently hear on the radio? i shudder to hear what bands you think are good.

i think that if you list radio bands that you think are the worst, you must also list some radio bands or current popular bands that you like. if someone lists coldplay as one of the worsts but lists kidrock as one of the best, then i know to discredit his or her opinion.

also, brutus, you state: "Think they are one of the few good bands anymore." i'm not making a comment about your statement of the band but instead the sentiment in general. i have a hard time accepting the stance that music sucks anymore and that there are few good bands/singers. i completely disagree. i think that there is a myriad great bands/singers out there. how could it be that there are not? our population has grown dramatically. record companies sprout nearly every day. the internet has broadened the talent pool. the difference now is that there is much more selection. the radio skims off the available list only those bands/singers that will satisfy the majority. radio stations have gone corporate and have carefully researched selections of music. however, if one strays from the clear channel stations and locates college stations, public radio stations, satellite radio, and internet radio, one would find an ample supply of talented, albeit largely unknown, singers and bands.

the only time that i turn on the radio is when i'm tuning to my sirius signal station. if i'm searching for music, i generally rely on metacritic (awesome), tiny mix tapes, and allmusic. amazon is terrific, too. i just start with a band that i like and then click on all of the corresponding lists that are similar to or that include the original selection. amazon is one big cobweb.

Let me first say that I listen to a modern rock station so Coldplay should never be played on it. Play that on a station called "The Rain" or something. The question was what songs currently being played suck and U2's new stuff sucks, although I've never been a fan of theirs. The White Stripes have one good song "7 Nation Army" everything else sucks, but none more than "My Doorbell". I want to rip my ears off every time I hear that song. DE might like that new Coheed and Cambria song (sounds like Rush), but it really sucks. I hated Rush the first time.
To be honest there isn't a lot of good new music right now. I'm ok with some of the retro British sounding crap, but I wouldn't call it good, maybe listenable. Most of the new Green Day songs are pretty good. For some retarded reason I like the new Gorillaz song, haven't figured that out yet. The station that I listen to tends to play some older Nirvana, Bush, Live, Tool, Staind, Rage, etc, back when music was better. As far as newer bands I love Linkin Park mainly because every song on both albums so far has been good. Seether, Audioslave, Puddle of Mudd (for the most part), Trapt, and anything that Amy Lee sings are all good. Unlike most people here I'm also ok with some of the modern "fake" punk: MCR, Used, etc. As much as I have complained about any of this music nothing pisses me off more than to hear the new Gwen Stefani music. No Doubt's first 2 albums (that I know of) were good and "Don't Speak" is one of my favorite songs by a girl, but what is up with this new shit. I was hoping better music would come out of that marriage. I know her hubby has a new band now but I'm sure it will suck compared to Bush.

actually, the question was/is: "What new bands do you think are terrible and should never be heard of again."

u2 is not a new band. coldplay is no longer a new band; they've just released their third album that will probably go multi-platinum. i'll give you white stripes as a new band; although, that distinction is waning.

you said: "To be honest there isn't a lot of good new music right now."

as i said in my most previous message, one who says that there is not a lot of good new music right now probably isn't looking hard enough. nearly all the bands that you listed that you like are radio bands. radio bands are naturally and generally not offer anything truly unique. radio bands are on the radio because they tend to please the majority of the audience. if you stray from radio bands and listen to independent label bands are just bands that receive much less press, then you'll likely find some better stuff. i think it's just harder to find the good music. there's so much more to wade through. it just takes some effort.

please, stop listening to the radio if you're not liking what you hear. no one is forcing you to listen to it. and please don't even go to mtv. mtv2 used to be good; now it is the same drivel as what you'd find on the regular mtv. is 120 minutes still on? that was a good program.

if you want to listen to go a very, very good band, try my morning jacket. they go from awesome and hardcore guitar licks to heartfelt, but not cheesy, ballads. just imagine the allman brothers, neil young, and pink floyd all rolled into one. and they look the part, too! the lead singer has actually choked on his hair during concert.

oh, if i start to think that good quality stuff is no longer there, i just put on some old pink floyd. dark side of the moon? brilliant!

It also depends on where you live. We dont have 1 radio station over here that's worth a shit.

then i highly recommend sirius or xm satellite. sure, it's about $10-$13 a month, but it is worth it. the selection is great. however, if you don't want to or can't spend the money, there is always internet radio. lots of selection there. or you can download music on your computer/ipod/etc and play through a quality speaker. you can download new and interesting music with ease using kazaa after searching for stuff on amazon/metacritic/pitchfork/onion/tinymixtapes/etc/etc/etc.

in my opinion, radio is the option of last resort anymore. i have spent the last few winters in south florida, and the selection down there is absolutely horrible. it's either rap, country, or top 40. doesn't bother me, though. i have the above options.

My roomate has Sirius. I mean it's great and all, but I dont even bother listening to the radio, as anything that I am interested in, I get on cd.

i don't have sirius for the music. sure, having all of those music stations is very nice; however, the talk/radio/sports/news stations are what make satellite radio worthwhile. it's especially awesome if you're on the road on football saturdays. all of the important games are broadcasted.

This probably doesn't go in here, but since we're talking about non radio music there's a band from Columbus that me and several of my friends like. Their name is Embassy and their webpage (although they are redoing it now) is rockembassy.com. They sound kind of like a heavier Coldplay with a singer who sounds like he wasn't just kicked in the nuts unlike Mr. (I named my daughter Apple) Paltrow. They have a few of their newer song up on their temporary webpage although I like most of their other songs better.
