World of Warcraft Players

I like the PVP in Star Wars.

Don't take this the wrong way - you are certainly entitled to your opinion and you can play and enjoy games however you want since it's your money...BUT...pre-determined warzones are not real PvP. For the casual average MMO'er sure I can understand that is attractive but I have been MMO'ing and PvP'ing since UO in '97 and it's really the greatest injustice in gaming today IMO that today's MMO's are too carebear in regards to pvp'ing and dying. The age old rush that is Risk vs Reward has gone completely out the window and it's a shame.

Ultima Online, Asherons Call, Shadowbane, Dark Age of Camelot, and Warhammer to a small extent were what I would consider MMO's with decent to great PvP systems. Hopefully GuildWars2 can put themself on that list though.

To each their own. I've been playing MMOs since 2000 I guess /w EQ. Probably a dozen games or more in that time span, some had decent PVP, others I didn't waste more than a few weeks of testing it out to know it sucked.

Open world PVP was a flop in SWTOR, but I do enjoy the warzones (Or some of them at least). Theres something about the complexity of Huttball with the team play aspect that I love. Huttball isn't all about zerging and kills, although the killing is a part of that. You're forced to rely on your team to communicate, pass the ball, and defend your goal. How you get to the goal is where a lot of the complexity lies. Warriors/Knights on your team can Force Leap with the ball to an unsuspecting enemy and bypass obstacles in the process, Inquisitors/Consulars can Sprint with the ball or Force Pull another player into position, Bounty Hunters/Troopers can either knock opposing ball carriers off catwalks leading to the goal, or they can shoot a harpoon to a player and pull them into an acid or fire trap for a quick death (My favorite). Smugglers/Agents can pop out of stealth when you least suspect it and decapitate a ball carrier or healer. Thats just some of it, theres plenty of other abilities and skill sets that come into play with that warzone. It's like football with fiery deaths, pitfalls, and acid baths.

It's been, I want to say a good 11 years since I actually played. The game just seemingly became worse over time and I've heard nothing good about the expansions. But a friend texted me a while ago - apparently blizzard is bringing back true Classic WoW. Like... 2006 style. So it looks like it's time to get the band back together, boys. We going full nerd on this one.

Yes they are releasing Classic Server(s) that will have a lot of the newer UI/Art/Engine updates but with the shortly after launch game mechanics and systems in place. I believe I heard they plan on releasing it next spring or summer? It was announced quite a while ago (last year's blizzcon?) so they will have been working on it for 18 months or so before launch and that's just from when they announced it.

I guess it was 6 or 7 years ago, but doing the entire For the Alliance! run one afternoon with my step-son, who was probably 11 or 12 at that time, is something I can still remember like it was yesterday.

The thrill when 40 players all run into Garrosh's Sanctum and unload with everything they've got, while morons dressed in PvE gear follow the city-raid party in like their pewpewpew is going to stop a well organized 40 man raid. The colors of all the different spells exploding on the screen at once is like a 5 minute July 4 grand finale.

Funniest part was my boy had the hand me down Intel Quad Core so he pretty much locked up the moment the raid started with one frame per second.

He spent the last half of every boss raid standing in front of my computer watching it.

It is probably my favorite memory of any game I have ever played. Only thing comparable might be the first time I heard the imps snorting down a dark corridor in Doom, or the Trent Reznor soundtrack once I finally got an authentic copy of the Quake shareware CDROM at Electronics Boutique.

Looks like a summer launch. But that could mean May - August. Most likely the latter.

WoW died for me most of the way through TBC. A friend bought me Wrath when I said I was quitting because he felt if I tried it I would like it. Hated it. Same scenario happened 6-7 years later. He wanted me to try Warlords. Quite literally played for a week and said fuck it.

The fun of BG's, PvP and most imporantly, world PVP, went out the window late 2007. World PvP was killed with flying mount in TBC and I knew my time with the game wouldn't last. I heard Blizzard put in a TM vs SS BG which gave me a good chuckle. I was apart of plenty of those fights when they actually happened. That's when I knew they were all but admitting the original product was better than their current offering.

Never thought I would hear about an announcement for Classic servers in a million years. I'm strangely excited to have some fun while leveling with friends.

I guess it was 6 or 7 years ago, but doing the entire For the Alliance!

Back in my day, sir, we did this for pride and not achievement. Ok it was a little bit disorganized then without the achievement.

My stepson wanted WoW from the day it launched. In particular he was interested in it because the older brothers of his best friend let them watch when they played. I relented with Wrath, after I finally convinced my wife that her little baby was 12 now and wouldn’t be corrupted by playing an MMORPG.

He had me hooked in a week.

It was bad. The real reason I’d resisted was because 15 years earlier Ultima Online screwed me up big time. That was back when you could gain fighting experience by attacking dummies in a training yard, so we’d all logon, find a dummy to stand in front of, tape down the left mouse button, then leave for class.

Ultima Online is the greatest MMORPG to date. It's a shame and a blessing that it came so early in the genre that not a lot of people knew about it. I started playing just after launch (December of 97?) when I was 12 years old and there were 8 of us RL buds playing it throughout all of high school. It was insane how much time we spent playing that game and how many organized school skip days we had. The positive of it all was that you could legally sell your items, gold, and accounts back then over various sites and I made probably $10,000 off that game in high school by selling my accounts and/or possessions (some of those possessions were gained legitimately, some were not lol).

Yeah, this is gonna be a no for me, dawg. I left WoW behind about a decade ago and looking back, I can't even comprehend how I made the time to play. I replaced it with a healthier hobby of playing guitar and ukulele. Thank god my marriage survived WoW.

I mean...if it can survive the ukulele, it can survive pretty much anything.

It's funny 'cause it's true. 8D
