Just finished listening to the live press conference. Retiring effective January 1st, will stay on for an additional 6 months as "AD Emeritus" to assure a smooth transition.

Roughly translated - "I'm going to hand hold Harvey's hand to make sure it doesn't get all f**ked up again like the LAST damn time."

Not to mention they've gotta find someone who knows how to control nuclear reactions in a split second. The control rods that moderate Bo's temper have to be maintained at a constant level, otherwise we'll have another Fukishima.

Much love, Doc Tom, much love...

I'm sure the final call is Montee's. There's two other more than capable backs ready to play. I'd sit if I were him.

The final call will be the doctors'. Montee, or fucking Montay or whatever he wants to be called now, can crow all he wants but he ain't playing a down until the doctors clear him.

There's a number of things that this game rides on, none of which should contain Bile-Enema's card.

Which defense is going to show up for Nebraska? The non tackling defense we saw for 3 games, or the sure tackling, ball swarming team we saw last week against a team that is a combined 5-40 all time?

Which Martinez will be playing QB? Will we have T-Magic, Taylor, or Tragic?

How will Burkhead's knee hold up? He had an obvious limp last week in the 8 carries he got.

Can Bo NOT eat the refs during the prime time showdown? We haven't exactly played lights out ball in that 7pm time slot recently...

How many times will we have to endure how bad the B1G is from Herbie and Burger?

RUTS? In that game? Hardly.

Look at the drives in the second half. Wisconsin ran the ball just about every play.

I agree with this. It's not like Wiscy was attempting to embarrass Nebraska. If anything, it looked like Nebraska was trying to embarrass itself.

I dropped 50K on Nebraska in this game, but I hate that bet. If it wasn't virtual money I wouldn't bet $5. I have zero idea which Husker offense or defense will show up, week to week, sometimes half to half. That hasn't changed this year.

The only team with a pulse we've played this year we gave up 600-something yards to. Nothing our front seven has done, against UCLA or the three creampuffs, says "We can stop the run" to me.

For me, the recipe to beat Wisconsin is to unleash our fastest, most aggressive Defensive Ends and have them kill Stave. Hit him every single play. Blitz every play if you have to. I keep hearing that the strength of this defense (presuming it has one) is our back four. Fine then - send EVERYONE at the QB. Run-blitz on first down, and send the house on every other down.

On offense we just have to not get cute. Get outside and use your speed, stop pounding it up the middle against what should be a slower defense, and put your playmakers in space. On paper we have some silly playmakers:

Taylor Martinez - QB
Rex Burkhead - RB
Ameer Abdullah - RB
Braylon Heard - RB
Kenny Bell - WR
Quincy Enunwa - WR
Jamal Turner - WR
Kyler Reed - TE
Ben Cotton - TE

You give me this lineup:

Martinez
Burkhead
Bell
Enunwa
Turner
Reed

Plus your five linemen, and I don't think Wiscy can cover them. But if we're passing, Rex has to help hold off the blitz - because Wiscy will be blitzing. And Martinez has to make a solid read and throw, something he's never been good at in prime time. If those two things happen, and we can get any of those guys listed above in space, we can blow these guys out. Not just win, but win by 30.

If our offense gets in its own way, or if the line suddenly forgets - again - how to block, or if our Offensive Coordinator tries - again - to put a square peg in a round hole, or if we have umpteen turnovers - again - then we lose this game.

So who the hell knows what's going to happen Saturday night.

All I can tell you is, I'll be there, I'll be wearing Red, and I'll be loud as hell.

Here's my thing - if the front 4 can't generat a damn pass rush - all bets are off.

And if Bo is playing that nickel D he's been playing here with Stafford/Smith/Green/Evans/Mitchell on the field, he'd better be ready to blitz SOMEBODY.

EDIT: I have yet to see a good RB screen pass run this year.

The thing that concerns me most is Nebraska's front seven against what has been a sieve of an offensive line for the most part this season at Wisconsin. Some of O'Brien's struggles can be attributed to the fact that he never had any time to set his feet and get off good throws. The other struggles can be attributed mainly to the fact that he just sucks.

Anyway, I'd actually like to see Melvin Gordon get a ton of touches this game because I think he's a real game-changer. Wisconsin has run him off the tackles a lot, mostly in jet sweeps. If they decide to sprinkle some in, Gordon could rip off a few big ones. What you see is what you get with Stave. He's big, but he's young, and when the crowd gets to him, things could spiral out of control quickly. He'll need to dink and dunk it down the field and not make any mistakes if Wisconsin wants to stay in this one.

Wisconsin's defense looks like it is markedly better than the atrocious unit last year, although it's hard to say because we've played four not-very-good teams. I'm not sure if Nebraska runs a lot of wheel routes, but linebacker Mike Taylor has gotten burned several times on those this year, with most of them going for long touchdown passes. And that was against Northern Iowa. But as a whole, this is a solid, experienced group. Defensive end is a little thin, but Wisconsin should be getting Brendan Kelly (a starter) back this week off an injury. The secondary is still hit or miss but has for the most part played pretty well this year.

I had this pegged as a loss before the year even started, and that was before we decided to look extremely mediocre. It could get ugly in a hurry if Wisconsin tries to make this a shootout.
