"We held a conference call Monday with the general managers and coaches of playoff teams and told them explicitly we would not tolerate attempts by clubs to 'send a message' late in a game when the outcome had been determined," said Colin Campbell, the NHL's Senior Executive V.P. of Hockey Operations. "Organizations, players and coaches will be held accountable for such actions."

Well we'll see if the NHL has the balls to back up their words. I want to see him in there though. Would love to see the heat of them going at each other.

Sounds like it's already be rescinded which is a joke if true. The fact they rescinded it about 30 mins after the game shows that they aren't even trying to act like they really reviewed it anymore.

They had to do it. Like it or not, it's good for the game, the series, etc.

EDIT: Ozzie deserves the Conn Smythe if the series ended right now.

EDIT 2: Words about the lack of suspension. And Bill Guerin brings up a good point.

"None of the criteria in this rule applied in this situation," NHL director of hockey operations Colin Campbell said in a statement issued by the league about an hour after the game ended. "Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight. A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here and therefore the one game suspension is rescinded."

...

Penguins forward Bill Guerin said if Carolina's Scott Walker wasn't suspended for sucker punching Boston's Aaron Ward during the Eastern Conference semifinals, Malkin certainly shouldn't be suspended.

Well guys sorry I've been amiss here for a little while (bastards took away my free internet at my apartment), but I just wanted to get on and discuss some puck.

First things first. These were two good games by the pens, and I would argue it was more so about what the pens weren't doing rather than what Detroit was doing.

They're not getting good opportunities what so ever. First game they get THREE big breaks, and when you work as hard as the Red Wings did that'll happen. I would like to point out though that Fleury should've never had his leg so far outside the post on that first goal, and what in the world was he trying to do by diving after the puck on the second goal? If he just simply goes back to the post (like any other normal goalie would do) those goals don't happen. On the final goal I mean seriously WTF how does no one see the puck but the five detroit players in the offensive zone.

Tonights goals were atleast more acceptable as far as being more common. First goal, when Letang has time to skate the puck up why do you fire it down the ice like you're killing a penalty? 2nd goal it's just unfortunate Malkin decided he wanted to take a run at Fleury's head leaving a wide open net, and the last goal just don't even get me started.

We've outshot them both games, we've had more scoring chances, we're hitting them just as much, and we even managed to win more FO's in game 2 than them. Yet here we are down 0-2? What's the difference?? Well it's quite simple actually.

Osgood>Fleury. Agree or disagree with me but I strongly believe Fleury has been very shakey as a whole so far in these playoffs. Against Philly he just gave up poor goals, against Washington he could not help sustain a lead, and against Caroline he benefited from our offense swarming Cam Ward. The positioning, the mechanics, the demeanor, and most importantly the timing of his goaltending is murdering this teams chances. Goal #3 tonight is just unacceptable and has to be stopped. Coming back from being down two goals against a team like the wings can be done but not when that extra goal is tacked on in the 3rd period. Both games Fleury has really broke our spirits, and any shot of a comeback by allowing that 1 goal lead to increase to 2.

Another thing i'm noticing that we obviously still haven't learned from last year. Detroit is not afraid of nearly anything! Too tired to finish their shift? No worry they'll find a way to clear the zone instead of icing it. Having trouble's getting scoring chances? No worries they'll crash the net and create their own luck.

I won't lie these feel like two games that got away. We really played good hockey for about 55 minutes of each game, but the difference is Detroit is playing good hockey for 60. The second we let our gaurd down they're making us pay.

We can still win this series, but Fleury has got to step up. If Fleury steps up we'll be ok, but if not this'll be a sweep. Overall though I'm feeling much better going into game 3 than last year. If we hold court at home we're in for one HELL of a series. It's all up to Mr. #29 because you know Osgood is going to continue with this insane play.

I understand that they had to let it go. What makes them look bad is rescinding it 20 mins after the game rather then the usual 24 hours for a review. It tells you they said we can't have Malkin out because Pittsburgh will probably lose rather then we went through a process and found it to be not what the rule was there for.

Also the shots on goal stat is a bit misleading this series because once the Redwings got the 3-1 lead in both games they really sat back rather then going for the jugular.

Who cares about the rescinding. You knew they weren't going to do it because of who it was anyways.

After two periods of play the shots on goal were Det-23 and Pit-20. Bottom line is we are getting better chances than Detroit, and we're not putting them away. If we're not going to put them in then Fleury has to give this team a shot and make a couple timely saves. Which means stopping that weak attempt in the third tonight to hold it to a 1 goal game.

Because if he can keep Detroit from building on their leads anything can happen with the quick strike capability that we have.

It'll be interesting to see if Datsyuk is back in game 3. If so and his anywhere near effective Malkin might be shut dow as well. Leaving the Pens all kinds of trouble.

I only care because it looks horrible. They should at least look like they are going through the process. I'm not sure about better chances but both games played have been pretty even. The question is do the Pens turn it up another notch at home and how do the Wings respond.

When it's the only playoff series left, and you know everybody in the Toronto office is watching it live, why should it take more than a few minutes after the game to look at replays a couple of times and make a decision?

And you should be... just as I enjoy winning the Super Bowl with the Browns every year on Madden dynasty.

But its boring for everyone else.

Detroit wins too much?

WTF? :slappy:

every other team and fanbase wishes it could have that problem. Detroit has it for now, but that means they'll eventually fall back down to the pack again.

It isn't as if Detroit employs the defensive trap New Jersey did in the 90s and only scored 1 or 2 goals and expects it to stand up. Detroit had the best offense in the league this year.

They look unstoppable this year and for years to come. Their best competition, Pittsburgh, can't even keep one of their best players because he thinks the only team that can win is Detroit.

Like or not, but Detroit dominance is bad for the league. Most of the rest of the league is losing money and the sport has to continue to worry about the threat of more money coming to these players from overseas.

The only team that can beat Detroit is themselves. They have great talent, great depth and the best management in sports. You should be taking that as a compliment.

But it is a bad sign for the NHL that the Detroit is able to work the salary cap to ensure its dominance for years to come. For a lot of teams, the caps is still too high.

You know what, I'm fine with Detroit's "interference" and "obstruction" that almost every Pens fan seems to be complaining about. Hossa breaking Pascal's stick? Eh, it happens, and those guys probably really hate each other since Hossa totally just abandoned Pascal in Pittsburgh. I mean, even NBC is noticing the no-calls, and they don't know anything about hockey.

This is my point: Yeah, it's illegal. But it's about as illegal as going 70 in a 65. Technically breaking the rules, but you aren't going to get called for it.

What do I want, then? I want the Pens to play dirty too.

Oh, moving Staal to Crosby's wing is probably a good call too. Really created a lot of chances.

...I'm probably losing my mind because of this Stanley Cup final.

PS: Malkin won't get suspended. Why? Right now, Malkin, despite all of the ridiculous abilities of the Detroit Red Wings, is actually generating offense. He's outworking the Wings, and he is singlehandedly keeping the team in games until the 3rd period. Even a Red Wings fan has to admit that Malkin is amazing, especially right now.

And he's probably the only reason why any casual hockey fan, without fan allegiance to Detroit or Pittsburgh, would tune in.
