They look unstoppable this year and for years to come. Their best competition, Pittsburgh, can't even keep one of their best players because he thinks the only team that can win is Detroit.

Like or not, but Detroit dominance is bad for the league. Most of the rest of the league is losing money and the sport has to continue to worry about the threat of more money coming to these players from overseas.

The only team that can beat Detroit is themselves. They have great talent, great depth and the best management in sports. You should be taking that as a compliment.

But it is a bad sign for the NHL that the Detroit is able to work the salary cap to ensure its dominance for years to come. For a lot of teams, the caps is still too high.

What is bad for the league is when teams like Tampa Bay wins the cup.

All sports have dominant teams no matter what the setup. Your posts come across as complete jealousy, not what is good for the league.

The Red Wings are not some unstoppable force. They are not destroying other teams. They didn't even win the Presidents Cup. They are looking to win their 3rd Stanley Cup in 10 years. BFD. Yes, it is 5 in 12, but 3 of them were when the Wings were buying teams. Now they are doing it with a cap. There are plenty of teams near the cap. Teams that can't get near the cap should be disbanded anyway. That is what is hurting the league...too many teams. Well, that and a garbage tv contract.

You know what, I'm fine with Detroit's "interference" and "obstruction" that almost every Pens fan seems to be complaining about. Hossa breaking Pascal's stick? Eh, it happens, and those guys probably really hate each other since Hossa totally just abandoned Pascal in Pittsburgh. I mean, even NBC is noticing the no-calls, and they don't know anything about hockey.

This is my point: Yeah, it's illegal. But it's about as illegal as going 70 in a 65. Technically breaking the rules, but you aren't going to get called for it.

What do I want, then? I want the Pens to play dirty too.

Oh, moving Staal to Crosby's wing is probably a good call too. Really created a lot of chances.

...I'm probably losing my mind because of this Stanley Cup final.

PS: Malkin won't get suspended. Why? Right now, Malkin, despite all of the ridiculous abilities of the Detroit Red Wings, is actually generating offense. He's outworking the Wings, and he is singlehandedly keeping the team in games until the 3rd period. Even a Red Wings fan has to admit that Malkin is amazing, especially right now.

And he's probably the only reason why any casual hockey fan, without fan allegiance to Detroit or Pittsburgh, would tune in.

Pascal's stick broke on Hossa's foot. Hossa didn't break it.

The missed call wasn't a slash. It isn't in that video. There was a missed hooking call right before that, which is exactly why Dupuis was turning around in the first place.

I'll give you that, however, that's decidedly NOT what your fellow Penguins fans are saying

Jealously? Yeah... of course. Hatred for the Wings? You betcha. Always hated them, especially when they were buying titles.

But don't point to the 3 in 10 stat and pretend like the next 5 years don't belong to Detroit as long as they keep someone competent in goal. No other team can afford the depth Detroit has. Management has set this team for a 4-5 year run that will rivals what the Bulls used to have in the NBA... only they had that marketable Michael Jordan fellow.

If Pittburgh could somehow mount a real rival for Detroit, it could be a boon for the league. But if its another walkover (and it looks like it), its another year with no peers. That's bad for the league.

Before we call the series over, keep in mind that this series could be tied (or 2-0 the other way) if the nets were about 3 inches wider. Pittsburgh came back from a 2-0 deficit earlier this postseason.

I don't think they'll do it again, but hey. :tongue2:

It's not like they a blowing away every team. They went to 7 games with the Ducks. The series last year went 6 games with the Pens. This series is not over. The Wings are not some unstoppable force.

The Wings do lose Hossa next year. Lidstrom will be 40. Goaltending is still an issue despite Osgood playing well in the playoffs. I don't see them being that dominant for years to come.

They have some really good young guys. I think it's Helm who will still technically be a rookie next year (won't be allowed to get the Calder, though), and he might have two cups. Mike said something like this in one of the active NHL threads.. the Wings' talent at the NHL level allows them to develop the young guys into the players that they can be, so they contribute immediately. Look at the young guys they have now, they're pretty much all contributing. Sucks.
