I know that the gf that I have gets it. Here dad raised her well, hell for the spring game she wanted to tailgate because it was "preseason" for the regular tailgating season. And I have a birthday coming up, I am pretty sure one of the items that I am getting from her is the nice fossil OSU watches that they have :)

to get back on topic:

my wife's parents were over yesterday. They are from the boonies of NW Ohio and have no knowledge of football. Her dad says that the news keeps saying osu has a big game on saturday. my wife goes on a 15 minute diatribe about the significance of this game, touching on such topics as the 2002 recruiting classes, BCS implications, future schedules this season, historic records and trends of each team and caps it off with the comment about texas fans being arrogant jackasses who think they can whip on ohio state because of the rose bowl last year and osu putting them in their place.

i just smiled and watched the indians game.

I will be in Charleston, SC watching my son's game on Saturday. I am extremely happy that his game is in the afternoon, which will allow me to go back to the hotel and kick back watching the Bucks.

My wife asks me last night at the dinner table at what time the OSU game is scheduled for on Saturday. When I told her 8pm and it is nationally televised, her response was "So this means we can't go to the beach Saturday night?" "Nope, not in unless "Flipper the Dolphin" has a color TV attached to his back."

She is a smart girl as she immediately dropped the subject. After 20 years you think she wouldn't even have asked the question, but I guess hopes burns eternal.....

Sounds like the early days of my relationship with the Mrs...

Her: Mom and Dad want us to come over for dinner.
Me: Don't think so.
Her: No, they do want us to.
Me: Not what I mean. I don't care.
Her: Well.. what do you mean you don't care?
Me: I mean, I don't care if they want us to come over, I'm going nowhere.
Her: Why?
Me: Football.
Her: What time is the game?
Me: Doesn't matter. I don't do anything on Saturdays
Her: Well, if the game is over, I don't see why we....
Me: Ohio State football is only the most important game on Saturday. There are others.
Her: Well, I can kind of understand Ohio Sta....
Me: I don't care.
Her: Well, I guess I'll say we're busy.
Me: That's fine.

Now -

Her: Get this... Mom wants us to come over for dinner on Saturday. I told her we're busy.
Me: Uh huh.
Her: I mean, how many years has it been since we've done anything on a football saturday?
Me: Exactly.
