Sounds like the early days of my relationship with the Mrs...
Her: Mom and Dad want us to come over for dinner.
Me: Don't think so.
Her: No, they do want us to.
Me: Not what I mean. I don't care.
Her: Well.. what do you mean you don't care?
Me: I mean, I don't care if they want us to come over, I'm going nowhere.
Her: Why?
Me: Football.
Her: What time is the game?
Me: Doesn't matter. I don't do anything on Saturdays
Her: Well, if the game is over, I don't see why we....
Me: Ohio State football is only the most important game on Saturday. There are others.
Her: Well, I can kind of understand Ohio Sta....
Me: I don't care.
Her: Well, I guess I'll say we're busy.
Me: That's fine.
Now -
Her: Get this... Mom wants us to come over for dinner on Saturday. I told her we're busy.
Me: Uh huh.
Her: I mean, how many years has it been since we've done anything on a football saturday?
Me: Exactly.
Before I left Ohio for Puerto Rico I was able to go to three games and one spring game. One of the games I went to was San Jose State in '02 with my wife. Ever since we were dating she always knew that I loved tOSU and would buy appropriate gifts for me. Well, the morning of the San Jose State game we parked at the WHAC and walked up to Lane. She got to see the usual crowd of people at the WHAC but as we approached Lane Ave, she was totally amazed at the sea of Scarlet and Gray. We went into Conrads and then went to Hineygate, had a few beers before the game started. People just being Buckeye fans, walked over to St. John's Arean and we got to see the team leaving for the stadium after the Skull Session. As we got up to the 'Shoe she looks over to me and says, "Now, I understand why get the way you do during football season and why you love the Buckeyes." We had a great day, she got to see everything associated with gameday in Columbus. She loved it as well. However, she also knows that on big games not to mess with me, she keeps our kids out of the vicinity of the where I am watching the game. She doesn't ask any questions about first downs hell most of the time she lets me watch in relative peace. I guess I am lucky.
