Legend
Two of the LB spots are locked up like Charles Manson. Who's your fave for the SAM? There are so many candidates, and each brings something different to the table. I was really excited about Curtis Terry after seeing him in spot duty in '06. Seemed like every play, he was in the backfield or stuffing the run. Unfortunately, he never saw the field in '07 due to injury. I haven't seen much of Ross Homan, but I know the coaches have been high on him all along. Thad Gibson is now a DE, although he could play the LEO ala Bobby C. Gibson was impressive in limited time last year. Brian Rolle looks like he could be a stud. IIRC, late in the Kent State game, he had four straight tackles on a 3 and out possession. Tyler Moeller has been a safety, but I believe he is listed at LB now. Supposed to be very fast. Etienne Sabino was reported as very impressive in spring ball. I'm probably forgetting someone, seeing as we have 800 LBs, but I think this is the field. (Spittler is JL's backup)

My vote would go to Terry, backed up by Homan, with Gibson in on blitz packages. Terry has the size of a true SAM. I believe he is in his last year of eligibility. He needs to show what he can do. He may also play some snaps at FB, so I see Homan splitting time pretty evenly. Moeller and Rolle are more suited to back up Freeman, due to size and speed. Rolle could eventually play at any LB spot IMO. I'm sure all will get some valuable mop up time in some games. It's definitely better to have too many linebackers than too few. (see Cincinnati Bengals '07)

If anyone other than Homan/Terry start, it'll mean we have a BAMF as an underclassman playing SAM. Homan would've probably started in '07 according to alot of people prior to injury and we know how well Grant turned out. I'd say he has a slight edge going into camp and its whomever takes the job away from him if anyone can.

Homan. I remember Andrew Sweat saying he was the 2nd best LB on the team behind Laurinaitis.

On another note, isn't this thread just begging for a poll?

Any way we can throw one up and merge the two together?
