Who will be tOSU's head coach on July 1, 2012? (betting closed)

This might just be me thinking out loud but - lets suppose they're is a coaching change after this season. I'm watching the NU - scUM game right now.

I realize perhaps NU is "small time" and what not but Fitzgerald has struck me as quite a good coach. I know he's brought that program some success. He seems to command respect, gets good concentration and discipline from his players. More importantly they appear to be well coached & instructed.

Or maybe that's just me... ?

Fitz is a very good coach! He is at his alma mater but if a school like OSU calls, I think he jumps at the opportunity. If they pull off the upset tonight, he might just jump in my top 3! lol

I don't see Patterson leaving TCU; he is TCU Football and now that they're in the Big 12, even harder to imagine him leaving. He's a lifer, IMO.

Gruden Vs. Urban.....that would be a tough call behind closed doors.

And FWIW, Glen Mason is one of the more underrated coaches of our time. The 3 headed beast of Maroney, Barber, and Russell was a very fun team to watch.

I feel bad for Fickell. I can tell by looking at him on the sideline that he cares so much. This is his dream job and he's a Buckeye through and through. But he's not ready. The play that will stand out to me tonight is the third down and 13 in the third quarter when we were in Nebraska territory, with Bauserman in the game and the momentum to Nebraska. Where the ball was marked, it would be a 49 yard field goal and Basil had been spot on all game. For some reason totally unknown to me, we throw the ball 30+ yards into the endzone resulting in an incomplete pass, then decide to punt on fourth down.

If you, as the coach, know you aren't going to kick a 49-yard field goal, on third down you must decide to run the ball or at least try a screen in an attempt to get about 5 yards to get into field goal range. Three points in that situation makes it a two possession game and changes the momentum. What happened instead was poor management.

There's also just no excuse for Guiton not having been prepared to come in as the backup going into this game. We'd seen enough from Bauserman, who is doing his best but isn't capable, weeks ago.

This has been a tough season and an especially tough week with star players that we planned on having back being suspended even longer. Then Miller goes down in his coming-out game, putting us in an even tighter spot.

But that's when decision making from the staff needs to come through and make a difference in a game like this. Unfortunately, all the decisions made at the end of the game were the wrong ones.

It's too bad how this has all played out. Fickell is going to be a really good head coach one day. But Ohio State can't have head coaches learning on the job. We need and can get coaches that are ready to shine now.

I don't ever remember a season this difficult.

I didn't even get past your first sentence! I don't feel bad for him at all! He in the HEAD COACH! HE should recognize that Bauserman is not the answer to come in behind Braxton. Nebraska pinned their ears back when Bozoman came in the game because they knew he couldn't run, pass, complete a pass, etc...We all know Guiton should have gone in the game! Why can't The HEAD COACH see it! I am disgusted!

What you say makes perfect sense. There is no excuse from learning from Bauserman's past performances. As a Head Coach you need to be able to decide when one of your options simply isn't going to work anymore.

As I've said elsewhere, Coach Fickell will be a fine head coach someday, somewhere IMO. But right now, he has no network of coaches from whom he can select excellence in offensive or defensive coordination. All he has is current Buckeye coaches and former colleagues who have moved on to bigger things.

I don't support Fickell remaining in his current position past the end of this season, but I hope his star isn't so tarnished by this mess that he can't become a head coach in the near future somewhere else. He's a fine man, obviously, and a good coach.

Whoever we hire had better have some chops in devising effective offenses. Our opponents will be dazzled by the contrast.

Spot on Max...It is easy to see based on what is occurring that Tress was an amazing head coach. With him at the helm we are 5-1 at worst.

IMHO the incoming coach is going to need to be someone that has the ability to immediately come in and take control of the situation. They will need to be someone who has a solid coaching reputation and will command the respect of the players.

This is no time to pussy foot around and take a chance on someone who might get the job done...

After last night there is no way LF survives beyond The Game. It is up to your staff to settle a team down and get them to play within themselves when things start going bad.

JT was a master at it.

I wanted Luke to be the guy, but he is just not ready.
