If the NFL is no distraction; Chucky is my dream hire. I would just be scared that in 3 years, he is gone to the league.

Agreed, the dude ate, slept, and drank the NFL for years. However, there's been plenty of job openings recently and he hasn't jumped at any of them. Maybe waiting for the right opportunity, but at the same time, maybe he's over the hire/fire attitude of the NFL. He came up through the ranks, and did some stints in college (misc graduate assistant positions). Even Chucky would have to see the opportunity before him at OSU. If he comes in, works his butt off like he normally does, he's not going to get fired for not taking teams to the national championship (though that would be nice ever year).

The guy can come, pick his staff, and have control of the program without any owners/GMs.

I would LOVE to play for that guy! I think kids would be knocking down the doors to come play for Gruden.

The guy was born in Sandusky, it's hard to say he didn't grow up on the Buckeyes. The guys oozes confidence and knowledge at every step. He might not like the restrictions that the NCAA has, but I'm sure he can find ways to keep busy.

Could be a pipe dream, but we can speculate at this point. Plus ESPN would love us.

Hire Jon Gruden. Let him hire his brother, Jay as Offensive Coordinator. Keep Fickell as DC... This would be a good situation! Some of his other staff members could be...

OL - LaCharles Bentley
LB - Mike Vrabel
WR - Stan Drayton
S - Paul Haynes
CB - Tavar Johnson
RB - Mike Alstott (One of my all-time favorite players)

Jon Gruden was who tOSU was looking at before Tressel was found, right?
Not as I recall. I think there was a rumor he was offered an interview. But it was a rumor only because he was the hot new name in coaching and from Ohio. I've never seen a comment from him about Ohio State.

They interviewed Chris Spielman (IIRC), Mike Belotti, Ty Willingham, Fred Pugac, Glen Mason:oh:!, and Tressel. They invited Mason, the other one, and I think Belotti in for a second interview. After Belotti turned them down, Archie wanted Mason, Geiger the other one.

If Bricker Hall is really practically taking over the athletic department, then Smith is almost assuredly leaving C-bus in fairly short order. That there may be dissent among the University administration does not bode well though, I think.
