Who was faster? TGII or TP?

It depends. I believe Tedd Ginn was the faster. But TP has football speed that it deceiving. The only thing that matters is moving the chains and lighting up the scoreboard.

We are splitting hairs here.

Thanks for posting the highlight film. The two that stick out the most are the 82 yards against Michigan. Carr put Edwards on the cover team. Braylon takes a whiff and then either goes off to hide or grabs his hamstring (other track coaches will get that reference). Then the end around against Notre Dame with Mangold running convoy until Ginn blows by him.

As to the question, Teddy wins the sprint. It's one thing to get a six foot body out of the blocks and rolling, another to get 6'6 245 out of the blocks. When you seem him run the ball he's already moving before he decides to turn on the jets. Trained up, I wouldn't bet against Terrell in the 400, but again his body size would be an issue.

So does JT get credit for inventing the Wildcat in the Alamo Bowl? Unfortunatly Troy Smith ruined it so we never really saw more of the WildGinn besides that game.
I think the thing about Ted is that he has good vision, and great stop/start/juke quickness to go with the top line speed. Pryor is much faster than he looks like he should be and with his size he is harder to take down, which is why he gets away from first contact most of the time. Pryor doesn't have the quickness that Ginn had, but once he gets open he can beat angles almost as well. Noted defenders probably aren't taking the same angles that they were with Ginn.

Legendary coach Pop Warner invented the single wing - the Wildcat is just a variation of that old offense that was dominant in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s.

Let's just put it this way.

Ted Ginn is the only player I've seen make the End Around play deadly almost everytime it was tried.

We know Troy Smith has a cannon. Ted Ginn was the only one who could outrun Smith's pass, come back to get the ball, and still be fast enough to not only catch it with 5 yards of clearance from the defender, but turn around and score a TD without getting touched by said defender.

#1. The opening kickoff in the Florida BCS game. The Gators wanted no part of Ted Ginn that day and thanks to Roy Hall, they didnt have to worry about him after kickoff.

That clip just makes me sad.

#2. Punt return vs Philadelphia, with Miami. Listen to the announcer as he smokes the angles that 3 different players had on him. Those are professional athletes he's torching in that return.

The only reason that Ted Ginn doesn't hold the state record for the 100 is because he didn't run it. If he did, he would have it.

Not true. Brandon Saine is built for the 100. One of my former students ran second to BSaine (by a few thousandths of a second) and he would also beat TG in the 100. Brandon ran a 10.38 and that is amazing.

That being said, TG has better hips, better quickness, and, which has been said, better football speed. Who is "faster" in a practical sense? TGII.

TGII return against UF really shows how fast he really was. Reggie Nelson has an angle on him, Ginn runs right by him and puts 20 yards between them in about 4 steps.

Anyone else notice how Teddy almost never jukes, instead just running around people. It really is pretty sick.

My fav was the catch against Ok St three guys converging and he does an in and out move and they are sitting there wondering what just happened......

Ted Ginn....

That said I had a conversation once with Posey about TP's 40 time. Posey said that TP is explosive in the 40 but slows down in the 100. He (Posey) basically said he is faster at 80 yards while TP is faster in 40 which I thought would be the opposite due to TP's size and momentum. He said Lamar "flash" Thomas was faster than anyone on the team (before he transfered)

Heh I was about to say that sprite at LSU but I couldn't remember his name.

You're thinking of Trindon Holliday... 2 career punt return TD's, 2 career kickoff return TD's, 8-time All-American in track. In flat foot speed he'd beat Ginn but I think Ginn still had him beat on the gridiron.

I know this comparison gets brought up all the time, but I think a better speed question in regards to TP (since everyone agrees Teddy beats him) is to...Vince Young.

And from what I remember, I'd say Vince Young is faster than Terrelle. At least, he seemed to play faster. I know TP has deceptive speed with his long strides, while VY had shorter, choppier steps in close quarters (still long strides in the open field) compared to TP, but overall Young seemed to play more with more speed and explosion.

I know forty times may not back me up here, but I have NEVER seen anyone look faster in football pads than Ted Ginn.

TP 4.32 last spring
TGII was reportedly "in the low 4.2s" before his foot injury in the UF game...

Doesn't matter - TGII had nation's best, likely globally-competitive top-end speed...

Not many people have ever been this fast in the NFL...

He jogs 2 strides/5 yards at the end of the second run... would have been a pretty sick 200 or 400 yard guy for USA track...

edit: I do thank whoever started this thread for giving me an excuse to YouTube highlights of TGII... so much fun...

Yeah, Bob Hayes, pretty tough to argue with the 100m Olympic winner...

Still guys like Wille Gault and Renaldo Nehemiah (sp?) out there who have pretty impressive track resumes, if only they could catch...:wink2:

And I don't care what anyone says, Rocket Ismail, Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson were all pretty goddammed fast in pads... Hell, think back to Randy Moss in the early Vikings days the few times they did let him return punts...
