Who Are Your Top Players for 2008? (merged)

Scout loves those guys that have the size.. but they do lack the mental toughness and are soft. There were several offensive lineman this past recruiting year that fit that description, especially in the state of georgia.

My mistake BGriff...a typo on my part. Sanders has great potential but that's all it is as of now. You have to love his frame but Coach Bollman always goes for guys with that mean streak and that isn't easy to teach...it remains to be seen whether or not Zebrie has it. But I was very encouraged after watching all that film and still being pretty confident that the guys we are in on aren't overrated. I think there are many legit 5 star guys we have a good shot at.

I have just got done with a week of watching a lot of film on some various national prospects and decided to make my own top 50 in the country. It may be a bit buckeye-biased, but I really like the targets we are in on. I realize I'm no expert but I thought it would be fun to make a pre-season list. And without further ado:

48. Cordale Scott WR 6'3 200 OH
49. Terrell Manning LB 6'2 205 NC
50. Brandon Moore TE 6'6 230 OH

I will give a list as soon as I am able to watch a little more film and can really make an educated list...

Just a couple things about this list...

- Julio Jones is a stud, should be higher...
- Kyle Long will be around the 15th best lineman in the country, not top 50 material...
- Dan Bucker should probably be on the list somewhere...
- No McGuffie
- No DJ shoemate

Not a knock on your list, just a couple of my initial thoughts...

not sure where to ask this, seems like the most logical spot.

seems the net is being casted a little broader this year, at least early on. is that my preception? a reality? a shift back to the shotgun approach? or based on small number of scholies not wanting to get "shutout" or am i just stupid?

I think the net is a bit wider from an OOS standpoint, but I don't think there are that many more offers out right now compared to this time last year. Maybe a couple more, but not necessarily an entire shift in the staff's recruiting philosophy.

Here is my opinion after thinking about this...Last year we were looking to get a large amount of speed players, and we knew there were quite a bit in-state and could wait, see a couple of them at camp and then make the offer.

This year we are looking for more OOS guys thus more of the early offers, to see if they bite and if not then we have a pretty loaded year in state...

I watched film on Jones and wasn't very impressed...he has good upside but I really wasn't blown away by his film at all. Kyle Long was on the first team All American list on Rivals, which puts him in the top 5 OL for their site. Not to mention, he has drawn rave reviews. I didn't get to watch film on Buckner or Shoemate. I think McGuffie is right around the 40-50 spot but I do believe I meant to put him on the list and forgot. Thanks for the insight though:) .

No problem, I actually havent seen film on Jones, just everybody that has seen in him terms of national guys have said top 10 easy. As for Long, I think that top 30 ranking was more a service of his name. He has the potential to be very good and has great bloodlines, just at this point he has a little polishing to do and with the lineman all over the country next year I am not sure if I would put him that high.

Yeah I had heard a lot on Jones as well but the film wasn't impressive enough...mostly it was just him catching short passes or screens for about 10 to 15 yards and then being brought down by the first tackler. Long I think has the measurables and athleticism Rivals loves...but hopefully some film on him will be out soon.

1.QB - Terrelle Pryor - I am never confident on national top 10 guys until they sign.
2.RB - Devoe Torrence - I will not let anything change my opinion until he signs somewhere else.
3.WR - Michael Floyd - I know we have caught up with Notre Dame, but I think that Minny could make a push and NOtre Dame will be in it till the end. I don't feel good about this one.
4.WR - Cordale Scott - Grades/Test score = Buckeye
5.TE - Brandon Moore - Will he get an offer? If so I would think we would be close to the top if not the top.
6.OL - Mike Adams - 100% buckeye, I will not let anything besides him signing on the dotted line somewhere else change my opinion
7.OL - Michael Brewster - He has been recruiting for us. Why recruit for a school if you are not going there.
8.OL - Kyle Long - 50% us or UVA.
9.OL - J.B. Shugarts - 25% We are one of the 4 favorites, I honestly have never felt good about this one.
10.DT - Shawntel Rowell offer = buckeye
11.DT - ? - maybe Mobley or the other DT we offered, or maybe a guy from instate
12.DE - Nathan Williams - Offer = buckeye
13.LB - Shayne Hale - 50% we are in the early drivers seat, Is that good or bad?
14.LB - Andrew Sweat - 25% between us, PSU, Michigan, Pitt - Nice shot here.
15.CB - John Adams - Offer = Buckeye, if not we know that we got a good player with no offer to Adams.
16.S - Daniel McCarthy - 50/50 us and Notre Dame, I think if the Domers offer he goes there.

If you look at that list you have 15 guys...

I am going to guess 5 5 stars and 10 4 stars. That would be an amazing class in terms of quality and fill position of need in WR, OL, QB.

The only thing we need is some DT's and probably another rb. Maybe Watson/Womble?

I still think we get upwards around 18 ships next year.

Good list. I would definitely put Stoneburner right up there as well. Also, I would be extremely pleased if we manage to sign two of the four original members of the Block O. OOS recruits don't come easy, especially five star offensive linemen. Maybe that's not as bad as you think with the number of quality linemen in Ohio this year. Keep in mind that James Wilson and Jason Gwaltney both recruited for USC and then bolted. That's just two we know, there must be a lot more we don't know behind the scenes.

Defensive tackle remains a position of concern, although not as pronounced as the potential void at offensive tackle. Look for the staff to be very aggressive in offering prospects. This is not the year to wait around to be a Buckeye if you are a lineman.
