I've got to go with the Astro's in 6 but I admit, I'm biased and know virtually nothing about the White Sox.
The bandwagon is fully loaded in Houston. The 2 or 3 games, played in Houston, are going to be very tough for Chicago to win. I'm sure the same can be said about the Astro's chances in Chicago.
I couldn't bet against the Astro's in the game's Roy Oswalt pitches either. He's amazed me from his major league debut on. He has so much movement on his pitches, it looks like he's throwing a whiffle ball.
FYI - Standing room only tickets are going for $800+ and outfield seats are going for $1200+ for game 3. I think I'll pass...

Go Sox, looks like that bullpen wasn't too rusty. I thought it was BS from the beginning that the media was making it out to be a negative thing that they had so much rest.

Sober? You are aware that Clemens is no stranger to the WS, yes?
And, much like people's perception of Al Gore being a liar, Clemens didn't throw a broken bat at Piazza. He picked it up, and tossed it off the field. Yes, he should have waited til the play was over, no he wasn't trying to hit him. And I don't fault him for getting in any stare down afterwards. Why? 'Cause a smart pitcher and a power pitcher like Clemens is going to use any intimidation factor to his advantage.
I'm not a Clemens appologist. He's not my favorite player by any means. But the man has had a remarkable career and has a work ethic that must be appreciated. The only other guy I know who throws that hard and for that long (Career wise) is Nolan Ryan. Another guy who wouldn't back down one bit, even if he tossed a bat and almost hit someone with it.

Very cheap shot that couldn't be farther from the mark. Going into the game, Clemens' record in the World Series was 3-0 with a 1.90 ERA. He's been heroically playing through back and hamstring problems for the last few months, which has hampered his productivity. (Not to mention his mother died last month) He still finished the year 13-8 with a sub 2 ERA. Unfortunately, the hamstring acted up again last night.

I've always been a big Roger Clemens fan. I grew up in Massachusetts and even though I was an Indians fan I always rooted for the Rocket. He tried to hit Piazza with that bat, IMO. At worst he was just trying to get in his head by throwing the bat his way but I don't believe for a second he was innocently trying to toss the bat off the field.

The bat toss was on purpose but Clemens wasn't trying to hit Piazza with the bat. Just send a message. Classy move? Absolutely not, but intimidation is a tool of any good power pitcher. Clemens was just trying to get in Piazza's head. Like or not, it's this kind of attitude that has helped make Clemens, arguably the greatest pitcher of all time.

In my opinion, here's what happened:
When Clemens hit Piazza earlier that year, the Mets, Mets fans, and New York media overracted tremendously. That beaning got more pub and spewed more venom between Clemens and the Mets than you can imagine.
Leading up to Game 2, the NY media (doing their usual "stirring the pot" garbage) overplayed the match-up. It was all anyone could talk about, and they didn't stop talking about it: What will Piazza & the Mets do to retaliate? Will Piazza charge the mound in the World Series? What Yankees will the Mets throw at? etc.
Clemens, before the game, was nervous. He was asked non-stop questions about the incident, and probably feared that Piazza would do something. You could see him breathing heavily, twitching, and had a ton of nervous energy on the mound before that AB.
I think in the split second when the bat got to the mound, Clemens' (in a mound of nerves) thought was that Piazza threw the bat AT him. When he picked it up, and cocked back to throw it back at Piazza, he realized that it was a saw-off, and adjusted in time to throw it safely down the 1B line.

Even if Clemens hit Piazza with the bat, it wasn't going hurt him other than a bump or a bruise. As for hitting Piazza in the head, do we know for a fact Clemens intended the pitch to be anything but a brush-back? Even if it was intended to hit him, I think you'll find the Hall of Fame is filled with pitchers who threw at hitters. (Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale to name a couple) The other Hall of Fame worthy power pitchers of the current era (Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson) have also had head-hunting acquisitions against them at one time or another. Fear is part of being a successful power pitcher.
