And, much like people's perception of Al Gore being a liar, Clemens didn't throw a broken bat at Piazza. He picked it up, and tossed it off the field. Yes, he should have waited til the play was over, no he wasn't trying to hit him. And I don't fault him for getting in any stare down afterwards. Why? 'Cause a smart pitcher and a power pitcher like Clemens is going to use any intimidation factor to his advantage.
I'm not a Clemens appologist. He's not my favorite player by any means. But the man has had a remarkable career and has a work ethic that must be appreciated. The only other guy I know who throws that hard and for that long (Career wise) is Nolan Ryan. Another guy who wouldn't back down one bit, even if he tossed a bat and almost hit someone with it.
