I'd have to say the 69 offense was more of a potent offense than the '68 offense from what i've read but I've said it before in a thread somewhere and i'll say it again.. i think this years offense has some serious potential to be one of the greatest of all time in all of college football.
You look at Miami and USC's high octane offenses that have just rolled through recently. Ken Dorsey, Leinhart, Mcgahee, Bush/Lendale, both had good solid lines and both had game-breaking recievers..
I honestly think our offense will be much more successful because of an x-factor in troy smith. We are going to see an explosive, balanced offense like the USC's and Miami's but with a mobile quarterback.
Our line has 2 key losses, but should still be a damn good line with who's stepping in..
On the ground you can pick your poison.. Pittman, Maurice Wells, Erik Haw, and Chris Wells.. plus Troy's ability to move around a little
The aerial attack should be just as killer.. Ginn and Gonzo compliment each other in a great way and will allow the 3rd and 4th recievers (Robo, Hall, Dukes, etc) as soon as they bring some men into the box we can burn you deep.. and really bad.. like ND burned, and thats not touching on our 2 athletic tight ends in nicols and frost.
Troy is the X-Factor (next to tressel), IMO. Troy has developed from a mobile quarterback that can occasionally hurt you with his arm to a hell of a passer with an ability to not only shake you and get around you in the backfield but the patience to still look downfield for an open reciver. This is a complete 180 from the Troy of old. The best part is Troy has assumed the role of the general and if it comes down to a close game, he's the guy I want back there making backyard football plays on abc.
Defend the pass we'll slash you with MoWells, run you over with Chris Wells, and kick your ass up and down the field with Pittman.. shit Haw will score on you too if we'd play him (i think
). If you wanna defend the pass, you can spy troy which is going to create some unfortunate mismatches for you on the defense in terms of ginn, gonzo, frost/nicols not to mention if you wanna cover our speedsters troy will pick up 10 yards with his feet or dump it off to one of our many tailbacks.. if you can even cover teddy and company.
If troy picks up where he left off last year, we'll be deadly from anywhere on the field and should score.. often. Our offense is balanced which is the key.. Miami and USC didnt have one player to key on and stop or one phase that was vulnerable.. neither do we.
Only time will tell, but Zwick should get alot of snaps this year if all goes well.
If troy struggles though I can't promise anything haha
ps. voted 95, thats the best offense at tOSU i've ever seen.. granted im only 18
