For total dominance over their opponents, I'll take the 1967 freshman team. They had all the "super sophs" that formed the nucleus of the 68, 69, and 70 teams. Plus they had great running back--could have been an All-American RB--kid named Jack Tatum. Wonder what ever happened to him?

Then again, it's hard to overlook the tandem of Archie and Pete Johnson. Then again . . . . sheesh, for a program known for great defensive football, we've had a bunch of great offenses.

And, yes, I'm guardedly optimistic that this year's offense could be one of the best ever.

The 1996 team beat some folks up. Outscored opponants on the order of 140 - 7 in the first two games.

But, since I never saw the 50's 60's and 70's teams play, I'd have to say 95 was pretty damn good... as was 98... I guess I'd take 98 since it includes a Michigan win. Boston, Miller, Germaine, Wiley et al was a pretty damn good crew.

The 2002 offense shouldn't be on this poll. The 2nd half of the season the offense was dreadful to watch.

I would take the 1995 offense slightly over the 1998 offense because of the offensive line and penalties. The 1998 team would rack up the penalties. The 1995 team had 5th year senior QB (Hoying), Heisman winner (George), Bielentikoff winner (Glenn), great TE (Dudley), great blocking FB (Sualua), and a great offensive line (Pace, Gohlstein, Sumner, Porter, Daniels). The 1998 offense had a 5th year senior QB (Germaine), great 1-2 punch at RB (Wiley, Montgomery), great receiving FB (Keller), great receiving tandem (Boston, Miller), and a solid offensive line (R. Murphy, K. Murphy, Walter, Burris, Gilbert).

I thought Tatem was a DB. Correct me if I am wrong though. He was recently facilitated at one of last year's games... again if my memory serves me right.

What the heck does that sentence in bold mean?

Anyway, Hineybuck has it primarily correct - Tatum was generally regarded as the toughest guy on the whole team to tackle (as a Freshman in practices), but he was switched to DB permanently before his Soph season due to need at DB and depth in the O backfield.
He would have been one of tOSU's all-time greats no matter where they would have played him, that's for sure.
I knew a guy who played special teams as a punt returner and played some scout team as well during that era, and I asked him what it was like to practice against Tatum. He said one hit from Tatum, even in practice, was one too many.

Oh yeah, and I voted for the '69 offense (although '95 was more balanced, for sure). In '69 it was coaching that lost the scUM game, pure and simple.
The '73 O was dominant - if Corny Green hadn't been hurt during the scUM game, they would probably be first on my list.
I really like the '84 offense too.
