Which Coach Would You NOT Want to be Coaching YOUR Kid?

SonOfWoody

Sophmore
I'm going to call this an outgrowth of the Rich Rodriguez thread, which led me to ask myself:

What college coaches out there would I absolutely, positively NOT want MY kid to play for?

I'll provide my top choices in my first post inside the thread.

OK, here's my bunch, going from absolute worst to bad:

- Bobby Bowden

How many scandals does this clown have to have before people get that the part of the normal person's brain that deals with ethics has been removed from him, and a long time ago? Not only would your kid be getting bad lessons in that area, he would have to fight every day just to be able to take legit classes and get a sheepskin worth a damn, as it appears to me that the entire football program is warped to make sure every player majors in pigskin. I don't care if the guy wins a thousand games, he's bad news, and I wouldn't want him near anybody I care about.

- Coach Spurious aka visor boy

Not particularly an ethics god either, but more troubling, your kid will always come in tenth place behind Coach Spurious and his ego. Your kid could be the greatest recruit on planet earth and this guy would feed him to hungry lions on national TV if he thought there was something it it for him.

- Whoever is coaching Miami these days

Miami tried running a program that was quasi clean (by their standards) recently and the guy got fired. Prior to that, the last guy I saw there that had the slightest glint of integrity to him was Schnellenberger, and that was a long time ago. Outside of that, look at the "quality" of the young men Miami turned out for two decades plus. Damn few of them were anything like what I would want my kid to be like.

- Nick Saban, Rick Petrino

In the Divine Comedy, Dante saw the innermost circle of hell as reserved for traitors and turncoats. I don't want my kid in coaching hell with these job hoppers, both of whom have multiple jumps far too recently on their resume. Your kid would be lucky if they're still at their school when the ink dries on their letter of intent.

- Rich Rodriguez aka Dick Rod

See the above. Only reason he isn't at the ninth circle yet is he has fewer hops on his resume (for now). The sleaze he exuded in various moves after his hire however are cause for major concern. He looks to be an ethically challenged individual that the TSUN faithful are desperately banking on for a return to glory. Please call your friends at WVa before you bet the farm on that one, that's all I can say.

Ty Willingham- Hasn't anyone read his thread?

Lou Holtz- Don't want the kid to be spit on during the pep talks.

Bear Bryant- Dead.

Larry Coker- Sucks.

Ara Parseghian- Really old.

Bill McCartney- the kid will knock up the coach's daughter then die of stomach cancer.

Have to ask though, why all the hate for Urban Meyer?

I can understand Meyer, especially after the Cap One game.

Not sure why anyone would have a specific problem with Carroll... seems pretty harmless to me.

Spurrier & Bowden. I can't remember seeing a scrap of evidence that either of them give 2 shits about any one of their players.

When you dig into those ratings it's interesting that Tressel's highest scores were in "interested in my personal life", "emphasized getting a degree", and "treated players the same regardless of race".

Other high scoring coaches were Mack Brown, Kirk Ferentz and Lloyd Carr. (Maybe Carr knew what he was doing in supposedly favoring Ferentz to be his replacement?) TSUN fan favorite Les Miles did poorly, as did RR.

JoPa didn't score particularly well, though he had a perfect score on emphasizing getting a degree and on "it's the coach's way or the highway". Everything else indicated a coach that's not really in touch with his players. The only other current B10 coach I saw on there was Joe Tiller, who also didn't fare well (5.5).
