2023 WHERE's THE BEEF?

We've recruited some excellent O-linemen in the recent past, as reflected in recruiting rankings: Hinzman, Tshabola, Fitzpatrick, Siereveld, Padilla and Montgomery. I think the sky isn't falling in the near future.

I agree that the recent two classes have some really good OL that get overlooked. I think the consternation is the lack of an elite prototypical LT that we have missed many, many times on. Especially if you go back a little more. That and numbers to some extent. Unfortunately I think that's going to bite us next season unless young guys are ready to step up right away and someone surprises us at LT.

M. Jones, Jackson, Vihami, Fryar, James

Cristman, Tshbola, Hinzman, Fitzpatrick, Zen

Montgomery, Padilla, Seiverville, Walker

I've heard that the coaches are high on James. Who, by the way, can play Center, Guard or Tackle. Hinzman has also been turning heads. Some really good players in this group. Way too early to see who emerges where. But we could be better off than we think, especially if some guys in the second group step up..

That’s been my thoughts as well! The group isn’t as bad as many seem to think. It sucks missing on a few of the Portal OL, but developing is where Frye is going to also earn his paycheck

Players and coaches have said they are being brought in to compete for the job.

Good news spin on the 0fer is that maybe those college guys see that they don't have a clear path to come in and start like they would at other places? I'm going to roll with that because it's better than we are desperate for another OT and can't land one out of the portal.

Kinda thought Frye had proved himself this season (to the potential OTs out there). Maybe not, maybe not enough upfront NIL money, who knows. If coaches are working the portal for players, their thoughts might be there's not a stud inhouse, depth is an issue, or ? Don't think a portal xfer would be interested in sitting on the pine, but would be interested in playing for a perpetual playoff contending team. I get that the OL needs cohesion, and that's why there is not substitution like on the DL, though when the 2's got in toward the end of games, the OL seemed a bit more porous. Going against tOSU DL at practice maybe tells the tale. Again, dunno, but always hoping that the players step up.

Just feels like, to me, that some guys have really improved their stock on the Oline through the playoff practices but we didnt get the updates this year that we usually do. I heard the one positive thing about Hicks but no one else really this time. I miss those updates and we had a good 5 weeks for guys to get better.

I’m thinking that Frye likes what he has in the OL room, but would’ve liked 1-2 guys in the portal. But losing them isn’t a big loss, as most think. A bunch of the portal guys are really no different than guys already on the bench. If a guy couldn’t see the field playing for Bama, Texas or Florida than I don’t see how they see the field at OSU. We saw that some years back when a OC transferred from Bama, many got excited, and the kid didn’t win the job and barely saw the field

I made a similar statement earlier on. I agree

Only OT saw that would have shaken (shaked?) a stick at is Brockmeyer, who xfered from Bama. He and his brother (both from Texas) went to Bama, along with the #1 OT. Quite a haul. Believe Brockmeyer went home to UT, probably for some of that oil NIL down there. Very quiet transfer. Agree with you pnuts, didn't see the star power in the portal for OTs. A starter for, say Va Tech, doesn't thrill me to the cockles of my heart. Here's hoping that the untapped talent of current roster of tackles rises to the surface. This season will be Frye's true test methinks. Go Bucks!
