Where does the team go from here?

A lot of justifiable talk about changes in personel and/or philosophy. A subtle change that occured Saturday night is that between the Offense and Defense (not including ST), we saw atleast 4 true freshman get quality playing time in a major game. TP, Brewster, Shuggarts and Williams. Not sure if Adams played or not.

This is a pretty major shift in philosophy and I would imagine this trend will continue into next year due to losing so many starting upper classman.

I say let's make a run for a top five finish with Pryor at the helm. Not that I don't think Todd is a good QB, but anyone who is not the starting QB runs the risk of being severely under-utilized in this offensive scheme. That distinguished list includes Ginn Jr. (2004), Pittman (UF), Wells (LSU), and now Pryor. Even though Pryor doesn't know the playbook as well, I feel that he is much more effective with the plays that he knows about and also adds an extra dimension. Once he starts to complete passes to downfield, it's going to be hard to get a finger on this kid.

We need to insert Sanzo and Small into the starting lineup at some point. Robo is just not Robo right now with the injury. It's affecting him too much physically and mentally. I saw another poster in the game thread pointing out the lack of effort by Hartline to block an would-be tackler. We need more heart and effort from our leaders on this team. Posey and Washington should also get some looks.

Boom is going to be a dynamic back. He looked a little nervous and obviously hasn't developed the patience yet for more experienced backs. I think Beanie said the same about himself from last season. By midseason he should be a good one. Zoom keeps showing flashes, and with Beanie out it's time to put it all together. MoW is just a team player. He's definitely a positive influence right now.

Jermale Hines needs to see the field somewhere. Heck, any young player who shows speed and tenacity should be on the field. Chekwa should have locked down his spot with that performance.

Another thing that has really bothered me over the last couple of years is all the pre-season and mid-season talk about declaring for the NFL. I'm sure that everyone harbors these aspirations but come on, you haven't left yet. And having witness occasional poor effort and a lot of flat out 'not ready for the NFL' thing. Maybe I'm being a little over critical, but I just like to see a little more focus and team leadership.

What I'd like to see won't happen, but I think Pryor should play more maybe start. I'd like to see Posey (WHERE THE HELL IS HE, AND WHY ISN'T HE PLAYING), and more Thomas (is he redshirting?).

Start playing Brewster/Shuggarts. I think Brewster would bring a nasty streak that our gaurds have been missing.

I'd love to see a lineup on the line of....

Boone-Rhering-Cordle-Brewster-Suggarts. That's a NASTY lineup. I don't see Boone as a problem as most other have and think its more the right side.

I'd like to see these combo's. But probably more next year. The team can't throw this season away.

The future looks bright, that's for sure.

This team still has a legit shot at the Rose Bowl, which I'd love to see them in, if they can win the Big Ten.

FIFY... (and I agree)

My my my... I remember when I was at tOSU we'd been damn happy to get to the Rose Bowl. I remember one year not even getting to a bowl game... How things have changed when the Rose Bowl is a consolation prize.

If ever anyone should complain that it's a let down for us to be in the Rose Bowl, please do not hesitate to remind them that it's a GREAT TIME TO BE A BUCKEYE.

What we do from here is real simple. Go back to practice, work hard, and play Buckeye football. Saturday is over. This team has so much ahead of it to work for, and many are looking at it as trying to "salvage" the season. NC's are great, but only one team wins it. Probably not our year for that, but with many tough matchups left, including the scUM game and a chance for this years senior class to walk out of here with 4 pairs of Gold Pants leaves alot of excitement for this team and us fans still to be had.

Just re-watched the SC game, again. We are still a very good football team and will work our way back up the rankings. The initial reaction to our loss was an over reaction and as USC beats down people we will start to climb back up.
Boeckman did not look that bad against a fantastic defense. He was still making plays. His passes for the most part were accurate.
Ray Small had a solid game and showed his ability to make plays on the biggest stage against the best team in America.
Dan Herron showed ability and toughness all night.
The defense hung in there despite some bad calls(Freeman's roughing call) against them.
Chekwi was solid all night and got a terrific interception.
We are capable of playing man defense with our corners. We had not seen this before. If we can play man against SC we can play man against anyone in the country.
The special teams need more work and had an off night.
TP showed he can play and have success against the best defense in college football.
And all this without our best player and Heisman Trophy quality running back.
We will be "back" starting this weekend, but it is critical to win this weekend.
Just win, baby! :oh:

Our biggest problem is the apparent lack of motivation on both sides of the ball. The men just look stunned to be there and do not respond well at all once the points start coming in. USC didn't have much we couldn't handle, and Sanchez is good, but not a world beater.

It's also time to acknowledge that our defensive scheme is broken, has been broken and needs new blood at the helm. We've recruited outstanding athletes, but in terms of the d line, they're undersized, undermotivated and cannot shed the blocks to get penetration. We rarely swarm the ball anymore. Coach Heacock is a fine coach, but is WAY out of his depth at d coordinator.

Lastly, play Wonderboy.
Early and often. He'd the future, he's only going to be with us for a few years. Todd's a good man and a good qb, but he's not the man we want in command in the big games.

And here's a scary thought, Wisky and the State Penn have already adapted their offenses while retaining our traditional Big Ten heavy hitting. We may be slightly behind the curve and that needs to change.

Buckeye till I die!

I know that the whole situation with Chris "Beanie" Wells is very disappointing, but I always try my best to look at the positive things on any situations. I believe that now Ohio State is understanding the situation with how they were very dependent on Beanie Wells to open up the passing game. If Beanie Wells cannot play this season, then it can help Ohio State to improve their passing attack, especially when the defense knows that the pass is coming. That is Ohio State's glaring weakness at the moment.

This may actually be a great thing because Jim Tressel will have to figure out new schemes to make their passing offense much more effective without Beanie Wells. That means Jim Tressel is more willing to try to find a way to get Terrelle Pryor to become an impact player on the offense and finding new schemes that will be very successful, especially with how well he did with Troy Smith and the spread offense.

Jim Tressel is absolutely a great classy coach and deserves to keep his job. He knows what he is doing. Yes, he may get too consertative with his playcalling, but I am sure that he has rational reasons for any of his actions. He might actually become more aggressive on offense with Terrelle Pryor.

I hope he will be able to give Pryor some great passing plays to use to work with, just in case that the defense tries to send the house to stop his scrambling. If the defense sits back, then he will have the time to find the seams to run through for easy yards. It will be a great weapon to have, but he needs to make the defense convinced that he can be a threat when he passes.

The defense is playing fine. Everyone has to realize that it was almost OSU's defense against USC for the whole game, especially with the way that OSU's offense played in the second half. They did an exceptional job of trying to keep the score down as best as they could. No one should be doubting the defense. They'll play hard and smart and be effective in the Big 10. Hopefully, the players can stay injury-free and be successful in their mission of winning the Big 10.

Ohio State still can achieve the goal of winning the Big 10 and go to the Rose Bowl to regain their faith in their abilities to win a big game.

I thought he was the second coming of Woody

People seem to forget that Woody lost or tied key games in 69, 70, 73, 74, and 75 in which if he just wins one game he wins the NC. 69 was probably one of the worst losses in program history as that was probably the best team in Woody's tenure.

He also was in jeporardy of losing his job before the super sophs came to Columbus.

Woody was a great coach, but certainly had his faults as a coach. Tressel is the same way. He has his faults, but just like at YSU, I think TRessel will leave the program with a winning record in NC games,a couple Heisman winners, and in great shape for the next coach.
