What would happen to you in your job if you lied and were caught in it?

We had an employee who was caught in a lie. Everyone said to fire him, including his union representation, and his boss decided he would give him a second chance. Unfortunately, the guy has not learned and has not changed his attitude one bit.

Any discipline decisions will be up to the mailman's boss but he/she at least has to know they occured.

Let the PO know the problem. He may had just forgot the package back at the depot but that still is no reason to lie to you. It sounds like he is a lazy ass. And I don't care if it is Christmas!!! The guy has a job to do and if you are not going to do it to the best of your ability then you should go do something else for a living!! I know Christmas is tough but hey he knew that when he signed up for this gig. It seems to me that getting packages on time around Christmas should be a bigger deal than the typical week.

Anyway tell your friend to use Fed Ex next time. I don't recall ever having a problem with them. Merry Christmas!!!

must be difficult to separate the mail.. because I always seem to get mail for the same house number but three streets over

We got a new mail guy and we get mail for people 20 houses down the street. The address numbers aren't even close. I swear my mail guy is slow and/or stupid. Funny thing is, I took the people's mail(which I didn't have to do) down to their house and when I opened the mailbox there was mail in it from that day. Meaning he delivered half the mail to their home and half to us.

guess ya just made VGs point... mailmen make in the neighborhood of what your starting salary might be... and I venture to guess you'd develop a process to reduce/eliminate mistakes... even in a tedious world...

so you pay the higher comp to handle difficult jobs...
and lower comp for mere tedious jobs...

If they're making that much then they are getting overpaid...but I have no idea what they are getting paid anyways. If they are getting paid that much, they better get their damn act together.

I'll go with "Brutus1" on this one and say to just leave it alone for now. You seem like a pretty decent guy "Audio" and your expectations are exactly what any of us would expect. This PO dude sounds like he may have some other issues, hopefully you cleared some of them up by busting his ass. The fact that you posted it here leads me to believe that you don't want the guy fired, just for him to do his job. I'd let it rest, but as in baseball, if there's a strike three-I'd certainly make an issue of it. Peace.

This might be the happy medium you want. On some kind of paper, suitable for documentation, write down the time, date and so forth as to what occurred. Keep the slip of paper that he wrote out, to prove the event happened. He can't argue with his own handwriting. Now, this is the tough part. The next time he delivers, look him in the eye and say, " Since we are live in a land of opportunity, and second chances, don't let me see you do this again. I have the event documented, and you wouldn't stand a chance if I reported you." In my opinion, what if it was medicine that was needed for the well being of someones health. Our neighbor delivered mail out here in the country, and it is not the most desirable job to perform, but nonetheless, important. Just another view point. I thought about the other avenues of action, which would be suitable as well. Whether you feel like giving him a second chance, or lowering the boom, I don't think there's a wrong way of handling it.

It's amazing that he left a notice at 9:21am on the 24th, actually delivered the package at 9:24am on the 24th but it arrived at the unit on the 23rd at 12:43. I'm turning him in.

it may seem convenient, until he leaves something important sitting there and someone helps them to it while you are at work/school.
