What would classify this tournament as a success?

What would classify our run in The Dance as a success?

The season is already a success.

Our two biggest stars? Freshmen.
Our best scorer? A BGSU transfer, who as early as january took questionable shots and didn't play within the offense.
Our coach? Very young, and seemed like a good coach who (earlier this year) still had room to improve with in-game decisions.

The way this team has rallied, matured and improved is astonishing. If both of these squads returned to the finals next year and OSU lost to UF again, that would be something of a failure. But accomplishing this much with what we had a few months ago is outstanding.

Had OSU lost to UCLA or GTown, the season would be bittersweet. Losing to UF in the title game will be BITTERsweet, but still a success.

For me, this team ranks with the 2002 football Bucks as one of my favorite teams. Whatever happens tomorrow night, I am proud of how this team has developed. Now, a little icing on the cake would be nice.

OK, while this season has been a success, can you really look at this game and not say it has huge ramifications?

Its Florida
They whupped us in December
They whupped us in January

Maybe you just don't want to acknowledge it but right now, we look like Florida's bitch. If we lose this game, they will own us.

Sure this season was great and we will remember the back to back Big10 championships and the deep tourney run-----but we will also remember how Florida made us look like a practice squad, again and again.

We have to win this game.

First off let me say this isn't directed at you melrun78, just to fans and media in general.

I'm getting very sick of the BCS game being brought up. January 8 has no ramifications on this game whatsoever. The only ones thinking this is "payback" for that game are fans. I felt sorry that Thad and the boys had to endure some questions about FOOTBALL on the eve of the biggest game of their lives. They, like Florida's players, had no part in the outcome of that game.

With that said, I hope that the Bucks come out on fire and crush the Gators for what happened on the court in December. We played with them for the first 25 minutes of the game, a little detail many people (mostly media) forget about. The team in scarlet and gray playing tonight is much better on both sides of the ball than the team that ran out of steam on December 23. Florida better be ready for a dog fight because if they think they'll steamroll the Buckeyes they could find themselves in a hole quick. (I don't believe Donovan will allow this to happen though).

Go Bucks! Beat the Gators!

That is a really really good point. I have turned this into payback on an individual level. It isn't fair to ask the BBall team to rectify the FB team's loss. While I do want payback for the December loss I more wanted tOSU as a whole to take it to Florida. But that is unfair to our team. Good piont Bkoc.

that's not what melrun was getting at.
I understand mel's point from a fan perspective, I just think it is very unfair to the basketball team to have to "even" things up and answer questions about the football game.

Point in case... thanks for seeing my side mel.

you understand calling this a make or break game? your "correct answer" is not what melrun was getting at. consider:

If it were UCLA I would have stayed by my feelings that it was necessary to make the 8 and a crowning achievement to make the 4....but now that we play Florida, this becomes a make or break game for me.
it's apparent that he was considering a loss to florida to mean that the season would not be a success. this is a very poor perspective to have. fans who narrowly define success in this way are almost always going to set up a program for failure.

Settling scores might sound good from a fan perspective and it might motivate some teams, but my guess is that it will not be mentioned by Matta.

There is a much more positive motivation, these guys set out to win a national championship. It was their dream out of high school and they are one game away.

:oh:

As usual, Steve's absolutely right. There's no need for us to go negative to get motivated for this game. Our guys are representing The Ohio State University in the national championship game. December doesn't matter, January 8 certainly doesn't. We don't have to apologize for being in the game or talk smack like some half-wit Florida school. My hope is that UF is embarrassed like Cryami was in 2002, but even if we don't win, we'll be able to say that we beat everyone standing in the way to be in the game and we deserved to be there. Our guys will play hard and make us proud of the way they handle themselves. I'm not sure that I could say the same if I, Allah forbid, was a Gator fan.
