What Will the Buckeyes' Record Be in 2010?

Will the Buckeyes Win the NC in 2010?

It's about the O line..

Last year we spent the entire first half of the year in 2nd and 9. Remember ISO up the middle for nothing? Then, after we embarrass ourselves against Purdue, we suddenly wake up the o line and average 225 rushing per game, and ate clock like nobody's business.

Yes Wisci is a fright. But Bulemia is SO frustrated with tOSU that I think he makes John Cooper-esque mistakes and beats himself.

So we can afford TP to continuing to learn while suffocating opponents with our ground game(Saine will be MVP). Iowa is our second to last game. We win that convincingly, and try not to let down against scUM.

Heacock hasn't let us down yet with perennial top 10 defense So.. If the O line stays healthy and picks up where IT left off, then we have a real shot at the undefeated season, and TP steps up again in the NC.

You guys think you will beat Iowa convincingly? I thought that might be your toughest game on the schedule. Most of that Iowa team is back from last year that came so close to knocking Ohio St. off in the shoe with a backup QB.

I'm very sure Ohio St won't let down on Michigan. We just aren't that good right now. Maybe when/if we get Jim Harbaugh, we can be competitive and start to win against you guys. As long as we have RR....I seriously doubt we will beat you guys.

I seem to recall that Iowa used a backup running back as well?

Iowa will be one tough game.

If OSU wins, it will be because the new Iowa offensive line wasn't as good as last years. But their new blockers will have an entire year to learn on the job.

That game was very close to ending up as a comfortable 21 point win. Iowa did play well but I think we're still a level up on them.

Agreed. We also didn't seem to have too much trouble moving the ball/scoring against Iowa last year. Wisky, on the other hand, was much more difficult to move the ball on. I don't know off the top of my head, but how many yards did we rush for against Iowa? I'm pretty sure it was more than 200. I'm not too worried about a defense that gave up that kind of yardage (notwithstanding the year's potential improvement).

What's Iowa's record against tOSU in the last, say, 20 years?

Wisky has fared much better, though Alvarez was largely responsible for that, imo.

I am also not worried about Harris and Miami either...games are won in the trenches. Period. It's hard to complete passes when you're running for your life. Don't see them being able to establish the run either, so...

Iowa will be no cakewalk, but Wisky is the real challenge. Unless they fall apart like they did a couple of years ago under the pressure of high expectations. If we get by Bielema (sp?) and co., I'll feel really good about our chance to make the MNC game.

I can only hope that we get Bama and finally get the SEC (bowl) monkey off our backs (emphasis on the bowl part--as I'm sure everyone knows, the regular season hasn't been as hard on us against those cocky s.o.b.'s).

tOSU 34
Bama 13

I'm callin it now...write it down.

That game was more of what it wasn't than what it was - if you can follow.

That was a very vanilla defense employed by the buckeyes in the 2nd half when Iowa came back on them.

When Ohio State cranked it up in the OT, the Iowa QB looked like a freshman.

For me the perfect scenario would be for Nebraska to go undefeated and win the Big-12 whilst tOSU goes undefeated and wins The big-10 and both get to play each other for the MNC.

tOSU has a lot coming back on both sides of the ball and IMHO will be a force to be reckoned with.

Last time OSU went to Iowa City to play a "good" hawkeye team was 2006 i believe? 38-17 was the final...and I think it was 38-10 before Iowa scored late.....found this....

Ohio State 38, Iowa 17

Ohio State, in what was widely described by television pundits afterwards as a ?statement game,? trounced 13th-ranked Iowa 38-17 in Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. It was the second win on the road in four weeks over a ranked team for the Buckeyes, who won their 12th game in a row to lead Division I-A in active win streaks. Leading 21-10 at halftime, the Buckeyes scored on the first possession of the second half, ending with a spectacular catch-and-run touchdown by Anthony Gonzalez from the Iowa 30 in which he cut back, balancing on one hand, and maneuvered through tacklers on the sideline. The Buckeyes kept the ball for the entire 3rd quarter except one brief Hawkeye possession, and accumulated an overwhelming 40:30 to 19:30 advantage in time of possession. Their aggressive defense took the ball away four times on three interceptions and a forced fumble, while Ohio State never turned the ball over. For the second straight season the Buckeye defense harried Hawkeye quarterback Drew Tate into one of his worst performances.

Buckeye's must have a little luck

We had a little luck on our side in '02. Hopefully, we'll have some this fall too.

All of the peices of the puzzle are there. Key positions are not in question. Up and coming talent ready to show what they have. Just have to take it ONE GAME AT A TIME!:oh:

I voted that this will be the year for OSU. While a National Title is NEVER a foregone conclusion, I think anyone objective would have to agree that OSU is the better team on paper than any of their opponents. Notwithstanding our bowl record against SEC teams, I really don't think Alabama will be anywhere near as good as they were last year if we ended up playing them in the title game. Their defense carried the team and they are losing almost their entire defensive roster. It will be interesting to see how things go down, that's for sure.

I was reading Phil Steele's 2010 College Football Guide recently. Phil has OSU playing in the title game. Curiously, he has Oklahoma playing against us and (inexplcably) he has Oklahoma as his pick to win the game. I would hate to end up playing OKlahoma because if we lose, people will comment about how we are the only team they can beat in the title game and even if we win, people will make "well someone had to win the game" comments. We need to play Alabama this year to regain our respect.

I disagree with the people think Iowa is going to be good and give us a "hard" game. Iowa last year used up ALL its luck for the next 20 years

I look into my crystal ball, and see a crystal ball for us !!!

Having seen some of the BTN coverage of the past season, I think my previous impression may have been tainted by some of the Hawkeye fans that I work with.

T'yank is right, they were tremendously lucky. They were lucky we didn't run them out of the building, they were lucky to win against MSU, and they were lucky against some lesser opponents as well.

Maybe it wasn't "luck". It is possible, I suppose, that the '09 Hawkeyes had "it" in the way that the '02 Buckeyes had "it". How much "luck" is included in that equation is a different topic for a different day; the point here is that the 2010 Hawks are not guaranteed the same it-factor or the same luck as the '09 version. Just ask the '03 Buckeyes.

I do expect the 2010 Hawkeyes to have a very good defense. But the Buckeyes will have a better defense and a much better offense.

As for the Wiscy game... sorry - I'm still not seeing it. Defense still wins championships and the Badger's are going to have serious question marks.

As for the intangibles like venue... what is Camp Randall worth to the Badgers? A touchdown? Fine... give them another touchdown on top of that. I'm still not worried.

To those who cite the history of the series: TP is 1-0 in Camp Randall. Is the presence of the band going to have that much of an impact? Some of you think so obviously. For my part, I seriously doubt it.
