If everyone stays healthy, Wisc. and Iowa will be battles this year. Also, dont underestimate Miami, Harris can sling the rock when hes on. I hope our D will be ready for it.

Harris is not on when he is heavily pressured, Miami breaks in three new lineman next year including the center and both tackles.

Our defensive line + Miami's offensive line = not worried about Harris 'being on'.

IMO there are a few potential roadblocks:

1) Random chance (injuries, illness, having a really bad game)
2) TP/the passing game not progressing as much as we'd like
3) Holes in the secondary
4) Special teams

If not for JT, I would be considerably worried about #4, special teams. Our punting in the spring game... Left a lot to be desired. And I admit--I'm still worried about this one. However, with JT at the helm, I have to think that it will at least turn out OK.

Similarly with #3-- we lose both Coleman and Russel, but it's hard to see us not reloading at secondary. And they should catch a break, because this will be one of the best D-Lines ever at tOSU, barring injury.

#1 is always scary as hell. Hopefully we don't get screwed too badly. I'm most worried about our D-Line, where we don't have a lot of experienced depth. And of course, an injury to Pryor... *shudder*

As far as #2, I admit I'm a little nervous. I think the passing game will improve, no doubt about it--but how good will it get? Oregon's defense was not good. How will we fare against an elite defense? Pryor will have to be able to throw to the middle of the field; Posey has to begin to catch hard-to-catch balls; some other receivers stepping up wouldn't hurt, either. And, of course, we have to give Pryor protection, and that means the tackles have to play consistently well.

I think #2 will be the most inconsistent part of the season. At times, we will feel just like we did after the Oregon game. I do not think Pryor will play like he did against Purdue again, but I also do expect some disappointments throughout the year, not just from Pryor but from receivers as well. That is my simple belief--Pryor especially is just too young and raw to be as consistent as we'd like.

But his lower bound will be much higher than it was last season, his average performance will be much higher, and our defense will be unstoppable. I expect some really scary games--some games where the offense just isn't clicking too much, and it looks like the defense is being asked to do too much. But I also expect us to win those games, because our defense will be even better than we think, and Pryor will have matured enough to give us a pretty clutch offense. 13-0.

While recent OSU QB's have had more time-in-system before starting a season, no Tressel-era QB has been the starter for longer at the beginning of a season. Pryor had some struggles because he was thrown into the fire while raw. He isn't raw anymore.

Starting from game one:

Training Wheels - Off

JATO Unit - On

I was reading up on Iowa and their defense remains intact for the upcoming season. I'm sweatin' them a bit more than Wisconsin at this point.

We'll have to study them hard to figure out how to put that ball in the end zone.

I'm liking the fact that Moeaki, Stross and Richardson are gone. That's cool.

I'm beginning to think they'll have a bit more difficulty scoring on us than they did back in November but again, their defense is gonna be bad as hell and I'm hoping by then we've developed an offensive approach that spreads that ball around a bit more.

It would be wonderful to see Pryor throwing better this season.

We could win them all.
I hope we win them all.
Even with losing a game, we could still win the MNC.

I chose "no" because something stupid usually happens to ruin it for us. Something jumps up and bites us in the ass. I'm wrong about a lot of things, and hope I'm wrong about this too.

With the returning starters, I think the Offense will average about 34 ppg and the defense will be good enough to keep teams at about 13 ppg. I'd say that give OSU a very good shot at an undefeated record.

It'll take some tough games and one surprise tough game that always happens, but I think OSU wins the NC this year. Most of the pieces are in place and I think the confidence from the Rose Bowl is very important. I think sometimes that is underestimated, especially when you have a lot of guys returning. It's not the most important thing, but in the back of their minds, these guys will remember getting a big win on a big stage and won't have to think about USC or Texas anymore.

Another huge key to going undefeated is going to be converting on the redzone opportunities. That seems to be a big weakness of last year and if OSU can just get one more TD instead of FG, it will help a ton. When they get down inside the 20, it shouldn't be so difficult to score with a mobile threat like Pryor and a good runinng game. Hopefully they cash in on it this season.

Good post. I sure hope you're right about the point averages and the confidence factor stemming from The Rose Bowl Victory. Go Bucks!

Very true about Harris. I watched him play and he just looked uncomfortable when different blitz packages were thrown at him. However, he is now a junior and it's a different season. This game is going to be fun to watch. I really think it could be nail bitter.

The Iowa game will be fun to watch as well if you like defense.

At worst they will go 10-2. Should be a good season for you guys.
