Shitty hip hop is everywhere…problem is it is all subjective, like all music.
See, I used to believe that too. However I found this to be the formula to solve many of the "musical problems" I encounter. I.E. acts that just rub me the wrong way that I couldn't figure out why?
(ICP, Godsmack, Disturbed, Tom Mcdonald, Five Finger, Kid Rock, etc etc)
Hollywood Undead - they're a near talentless, douchebag group. The type of group that revels in the (just) despise they receive for their content. Their shit is bland, repetitive, lacks any real musicianship and the lyrics are wrote by a 5th grader. I've never met anyone that wasn't a complete fucking "Kyle" who likes them. Not even kidding, I've combed through my extensive memory bank to think of a single human being that hasn't annoyed me to death whom I remember bumping their tunes.
Said talentless Undead group has their own station on Sirius XM where not only their music, but a host of other insufferable groups also get air time. Why? I haven't the foggiest. Birds of a feather, I suppose?
So when I come across a group that presents themselves as industry, cookie-cutter, cosmetic, douche-bag type hacks, I ask myself this question - "Would they get spin time on the Hollywood Undead station?".
As fate would have it, slated with the timing of our little exchange here, I was beset upon by a co-worker just the blessed time of yesterday morning who felt the need to turn on the Hollywood Undead station.
Why you may ask? Simple answer; he's pretty much a douchebag. Graphic tees, tall can of monster, citrus Copenhagen dips, 5'6 at best and drives a chevy 3500. For everyone one of them that believe they are a stand out and unique individual, I've met seemingly a million more.
Anywho, would ya know it - EVERY. SINGLE. ACT. that I mentioned above, all the way from Five Finger to Tom Clown-ass (needing Eminem's validation but wanting to be Weezy) Mcdonald, was on that channel. I had to stomach that bullshit for 2 fucking hours while knowing that actual talented musicians with substance exist and we could have been listening to them.
Now I'm not saying that every single person who enjoys that music is themselves a douchebag. But I can't help but draw the themes, these parallels if you will, between materialistic purchases, image, attitude, conduct and taste in music. And these things have all, to date, gone hand in hand without exception.
So no, not all music is "subjective". We need to get back to being allowed to shame people for dumb shit.
So when you say something stupid like....
Mos Def never did anything for me.
But then have the audacity to link Tom Mcdonald's grifting ass (just like Aaron Lewis) because "hell yeah, brother he gets it"
Then.... yeah, you deserve EVERY bit of the insult that I will gladly and gently throw over your head.
At least you mentioned KRS and X though, so you're not hopeless.
As for my own addition to this thread and what I'm listening to this morning.
