What Brands Are You Loyal To?

There's a practical sense to it though. That leather has been sitting on a rack since it left the tannery and in a box since it left the AE factory. It's dried out, practically fucking parched. Nourish it with some cream polish to prevent creasing and cracking as you start to wear it. And one light coat of wax polish on top of that will give some protection from scuffs, rain, snow, salt etc.

Don't need to turn 'em into fuckin' mirrors. Just some cream polish and a quick buffing with a horsehair brush will protect them. You can replace the soles, but if the uppers go South on you, you're proper fucked.

Or, I can buy more.

But yeah, I hear ya.

Trueffit & Hill moved out of the Loop and up to Old Town during the pandemic. They're now open (and walking distance from me), and their shoeshine guys will do a good job for you. https://www.truefittandhill.com/pages/barbershops

I’ve got a cobbler in Glen Ellen. I actually need to go over to see him to get a snap replaced on my AE bag. That’s a good excuse. FWIW, if you’re in the market for a good bag that’s smaller that a brief but completely functional, do see this. I still have a couple of old Coach bags when they were all leather that I drag out from time to time... and a Tumi backpack... but the linked is my go-to right now.

My tweed samples from Scotland arrived today. Jacket photos to come in four or five months.

Ord, we stayed in a hotel very close to the Drake. We stopped in for a drink, and were 'discouraged' from enjoying a libation. Guess we weren't 'dressed up' enough for them, being in warm ski jackets and such, rather than a high dollar suit and those pretty nifty Park Avenues. Will try the champagne with the shoe polish on my golf shoes, however. Albeit we stopped in the lobby bar, where everyone was doing the high tea, and when we went downstairs to the 'real' bar, a bit too much smoke for my wife's taste. We did love Chicago and the cruisine there, are planning a return trip in the not-so-distant future. Moved daughter to C'bus to establish residency for lower tuition to grad school. Send a pic with the shoes and your Oxxford suit...Go Bucks!

Shocked about that at The Drake. The Coq d'Or (which is the cool Don Draper type bar that you want to go to) on street level isn't very formal about things. I have a friend who drinks there in a Ramones t-shirt. They do afternoon tea on the lobby level, and I guess that could get high falutin' though I've never been.

Edited to see that it was the tea, which isn't really my bag. The Coq rocks, and no smoke anymore. No Oxxford suit though. One grey Zegna and one blue Sak's Made in Italy house label. I don't go too overboard on suits since the last time I wore them on a daily basis was the 90's (fuck I'm old). I would like to do Savile Row bespoke once while I'm still young enough to rock it though.

Try Armor-All, leather wipes for your golf shoes.

Thump, I 'kick' my toe on the cement stair step to get
the grass/leaves off my cleats, and subsequently, have scuffed the toe to the point it won't keep the polish I lavish on it.....any thoughts? Still have a couple of seasons in them before they crack and lets water seep in......I'm a bit 'thrifty'.....Thanks in advance.
