Speaking of Mievile, finally got around to:

I liked it just as much as Perdido Street Station, but for different reasons. Nothing as straight-up awesome as slakemoths, but more depth to the story, IMO.

Almost finished with:

A story told from the point of view of Mr. March, the father in Little Women... I never read that, so I expect this is somewhat wasted on me, but I have found it to be quite well-written.

The Scar is my favorite Mieville book so far. Perdido starts out SOOO slow (but is fandamntastic once it kicks in) & Iron Council is far too heavy handed with the communist proselytizing...The Scar managed to hit the perfect sweet spot for me.

I'm really digging The Kraken so far, it's set in London rather than Bas Lag but I'm always a sucker for good weird urban fantasy.

I just snared The City & The City at Halfprice Books yesterday. After 8 pages, I'm getting the sense that it is going to be very different from the others I've read. :lol:

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov.

Wonderful read. I have a question for my fellow librophiles on BP: should I continue on with the Foundation series of books after I finish this or come back to them at a later time? I'm going through the NPR top 100 and I chose this one first, because it's not necessarily a series of volumes (even though I've understood now that that is not the case directly).

That's almost impossible to to say as an outsider. You know yourself better than anyone here...if you're the type who gets hooked on a certain author then stick with 'em. The Foundation books are far enough removed that coming back to them later is not going to really screw up any continuity in your head.

Also I highly recommend picking up Harlan Ellison's screenplay for I, Robot. It's a damn fine read in it's own right and would have made a far more compelling film than the Will Smith abortion.

That would be the one. Asimov even endorsed it in the case that they ever made a movie from I, Robot. Of course we know that the actual film rights ended up being owned by someone who just wanted to use the name for publicity reasons...but that's another story.
