West Virginia 66, Connecticut 21 (final)

Haven't you read the WVU boards. We won't stay within four touchdowns of them. Some are even saying that we don't deserve to even be in the game with mighty West--Godforsaken--Virginia.

Wow, a program that has never won a national championship, has never had a Heisman Trophy winner and hasn't beaten Ohio State since the 1800s has such arrogance.

I rarely if ever lurk on other boards, but I just took a trip over to a WVU board. In the eyes of an 'Eer, Buckeyes are overrated pansies from a weak conference that have not played a QB as good as the fifth best QB in the Big East. They will run all over the Buckeyes should we get the opportunity to play them. If Missouri does win, USC will clobber us as well. Apparently we as fans suck and our team is just as bad.

Not taking a cheap shot at the WVU team, because they are obviously extremely talented and a nightmare matchup for just about everyone, but WOW are their fans arrogant. I assume reading the particular board I did is made up of all of the teenagers and bandwagon fans, very similar to a Buckeye board I read sometimes...

Good luck to WVU.

I think you entirely missed the point of what Steve was saying.

Before I explain that, first a question. Do you play for WVU, do the posters on this site, whether the some you claim to be overboard, or others of (I assume) a more moderate disposition in your eyes, play for the Buckeyes?

Nope, didn't think so.

So, really, your opinion of how optimistic or egotistical those posters allegedly are doesn't mean squat.

I'm absolutely sure by the way that Steve was referring to the egos of the players on the team. That the Buckeyes wouldn't make the mistake of taking lightly their opponent, whether it be West Virginia or not, in a BCS National Championship game.

They aren't arrogant, they suffer an inferiority complex on a massive scale.

When you are born and raised in a state that sucks dirt and have nothing to hang your hat on as far as accomplishments, when there is even the faintest glimmer of success you clutch on like a drowning man in a pool full of piranhas.

Leave them be, they will sink back into obscurity once their bubble is burst.

No kidding... The opinions of anyone on this forum are just that, opinions, so "squat" would be the sum of all of them.

After re-reading his post, I agree - I think he was talking about the players.

Good to hear that you took the time to actually read what Steve wrote and now understand the same.

Which is why it is completely perplexing that you still fell the need to try and flex your verbal muscles - by deliberately misconstruing what was written by me.

Emphasis added acrolite.

Look, maybe you don't quite get it yet. This isn't one of those Rivals or Scout boards where you will get away with trying to play a clumsy version of verbal sleight of hand. If you believe WVU has a good team this year then tell us why. Don't start your life here by alternately attacking and then misconstruing what others write.

It won't fly.

We lost to Illinois due in large part to their offensive line dominating our defensive line. The game is won in the trenches. This is where I like our chances against WV. If we get the chance. The WV offense is very, very good, but their defense is average at best. WV is talented.......and so is Ohio State. It is idiotic to think otherwise, but I like that Ohio State would be the underdog in this game......media will say we don't have a chance. Sound familiar?

Go Sooners. :wink2:

I didn't misconstrue anything. You were stating that my opinion didn't mean squat... I was just pointing out that neither does yours.

Why don't you show me where I attacked someone. Or, for that matter, where I played verbal sleight of hand...?

I didn't. All I'm doing is pointing out how ridiculous some of the posts around here are. I'm getting plenty of negative rep, for it too... regardless of the fact that I haven't attacked anyone. Is it common for folks to get negative rep just for expressing a viewpoint that doesn't mesh with the "OSU is teh Best!!1!" mindset around here?

Granted, that's pretty much in line with what I expected. I imagine a ban will come next, even though I've done nothing to warrant it.

You arrived on this board whining about some overstated opinions, and have added nothing to the discussion thus far. You haven't provided an ounce of actual football talk (not even a homeristic one), just complaining about the discussion.

But keep playing the victim card. :tibor: Surely this was all someone else's fault. :roll2:

All I'm doing is pointing out how ridiculous some of the posts around here are.
Oh noes, there are homers on a buckeye board?! The horror! Scolding everyone like little children really doesn't make for a very useful discussion.

Yes, that's why a USC fan is a moderator... and regularly takes on our fanbase in debates.
I imagine a ban will come next, even though I've done nothing to warrant it.
What have you done to warrant keeping you around? There are a million ways you could stick up for your team with useful debate/breakdowns, yet you chose the catfight. We'd be glad to have you around if you could try the former.

I am trying to figure out why you even bothered to create an account here? You go off about tOSU's SoS, but the Big East has such football powerhouses as Syracuse and Pitt in it? Also, it's not like you can go after our SoS when you have such great non conference games as a two win Marshal team and Western Michigan, granted WM did beat Akron by one point.

And I am also sure that West-Va forums are so different from here, you guys probably all sit around and talk down your team, players or coach? No, you're fans, just like we are, and for the record, Tressel's record speaks for itself, there's a lot of reason for the enthusiasm you see by our fans.

There are Michigan fans with positive rep on this message board. That tells you all you need to know.

Anyway, what happened to Steve Slaton? He started off hot, with four straight 100+ yard games. Now, he has two 100 yard games in his last 7 games. His highest rushing total, 146 yards, is what would be considered an average game for him last year. He went from Reggie Bush-like #'s running the ball to only 45th in the nation in rushing yards.

Because there's a good chance that WVU will play OSU in the near future, and I'm not really one to lurk around message boards without participating.

I didn't go off about OSU's SoS, I merely pointed out that WVU's SoS this year is better than OSU's. I'm not saying that the Big East is a powerhouse, and I certainly don't think the Big Ten is a powerhouse.

However, Sagarin has the Big East ranked above the Big Ten. Syracuse and Pitt? How about Minnesota and Northwestern? Every conference has its own bottom feeders.

And I am also sure that West-Va forums are so different from here, you guys probably all sit around and talk down your team, players or coach?

I honestly wouldn't know, I don't spend time on any WV-specific forums... I do, however, read the ESPN and SI ones.

No, you're fans, just like we are, and for the record, Tressel's record speaks for itself, there's a lot of reason for the enthusiasm you see by our fans.

I know, and I'm not naive enough to try to say that OSU hasn't accomplished a lot over the years or that OSU fans don't have a reason to be excited. I do think it's a bit of a stretch to put forth the idea that OSU (or the Big Ten) are far superior than WVU (or the Big East).

Granted, it'll all work itself out one way or the other if WVU and OSU meet up in New Orleans.

That's the million dollar question this year. Speculation ranges from...

- His extra weight (he spent a lot of time in the weightroom and bulked up during the off season) has caused him to lose a step.

- Defenses are selling out to stop him, leaving White and the others free.

- Defenses in the Big East, who face the spread option every year, have finally started adjusting to it.

It's probably a combination of a number of things. He's certainly not getting as many carries... but who knows if that's the cause or the effect of his low numbers.

For what it's worth, he did hit the 1,000yd mark last night, for the third straight year. So, he's contributing, but not on the same scale as the last two years. Thankfully, White has been there to pick up the slack.
