no, everybody plays weak teams. but I think N.D. played a good schedule and against good opponents such as Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue. Right there is three teams from the big ten. Through in Pittsburgh and Tennesse as well as USC. Those are all teams that pose a threat whether they are doing good or not. All have coaches and players that can change the flow of a game. I know we could do better than Navy but that is a old rivalry that will never go away and it did feel good to kick the hell out of willingham.

Pittsburgh? Cmon...you are stretching now.
Purdue? What did they do this year again?
Tennessee? What bowl are they playing?

I'll give you USC, Michigan, and Tennessee based on name recoginition from the final two. MSU was playing good football when they played you, but 44 points?

Face it, your schedule was not tough this year. I agree that much of that is due to bad luck and some overrated teams, but let's not try to spin it into anything other than what it is.

First, the issue was resolved. Lovely how one poster paints your entire picture of a fanbase. Is that the Irish logic? I know better than that, but that is how ridiculous your statement truly is. If your skin is that thin, you probably shouldn't participate on internet message boards.

First, I live in Southeast Ohio, so your fighting irish crap doesn't scare me...plenty more people bleed scarlet and grey here.

Second, try posting something true and not stirring the pot, or believe me, it will stink!

I shouldn't have uncorked on him (thanks Grad for the edit :)) I just know too many ND fans like this guy, although I also know some good and knowledgable ones.
Well, let me say to everyone what I said to 319 in PMs...

This is going to be a long month of discussion. If we let the debates sink into namecalling, we are not doing this site justice. We've all wanted to blast into someone for posting an opinion we find ridiculous, but it really is not worth it when you consider the overall environment we are trying to establish here. Don't get me wrong, idiocy should be commented upon, but it should be commented upon using a premise of civility that is conducive for a continued discussion. There are thousands of ways to make a point without namecalling.

Anyway...

as stated before when N.D. played Michigan State they were unbeaten. and No I don't want to play the schedule scheme but N.D. played ranked opponents, where they ended up at the end of the year doesn't matter. N.D. started out 44th and ended up 5th. Nobody in college football saw that coming. S rry that one of the biggest stories this year is the rise of the Irish.

Uh, so if the polls were to rate Indiana at #1 at the start of the year and you beat them in the first game and Indiana proceeded to have a typical 3-8 Indiana year, you'd count that win as a quality win? Don't be stupid. Pre-season and early season rankings are vrtually worthless (e.g., look at Tennessee being ranked #5 in the pre-season and finishing 5-6).

Ohio State played a schedule that ended up rated in the top 5 toughest in college football, while Notre Dame's wasn't.

If any Notre Dame fan has any doubts on how strong we finished the season, here's a few quick facts...over the last five games of the season, Ohio State:

  • Scored 40+ points in four of those five games
  • Averaged 39.8 points per game overall
  • First team defense allowed only 62 points (12.4 points per game)
  • Totally shut down one of the nation's top offenses (Northwestern), holding them to 241 yards under their average
  • Held the nation's #2 rushing offense (Minnesota) to almost 100 yards under their average, at their place
  • Held Michigan's offense to 130 yards under their average, at their place

The question of SOS can be seen shortterm and longterm.
Longterm, year in and year out, ND does have, usually, a
strong schedule. It's just that this year, teams that looked
liked they might be tough (Purdue, Tennessee) were less than
advertised. Herbstreit made a similar point about the Pac 10
this year: it was a down year. But that doesn't mean that
it always is. We certainly didn't know that Penn State would
be good this year, given the last few years. You never know
ahead of time.

Guys guys guys... come on...

Is this even worth aruguing about?

Pittman is by far the better running back. Just because ND had a guy that could start for any MAC school dosn't mean he's even close to what kind of a runner Pittman is and will be.

Who in the freaking world did ND play? Who? No really, who?

If pittman ran against those teams he would have 2000 yards.

Big P is going to be force in 2006 that won't be able to be ignored w/ some heisman votes.
Try reading one or two pages of a thread before posting in it. No one's arguing about who's the better back.
And it's pretty funny how can say that an above average runningback would be able to put up 182 yards per game if we played ND's schedule. Pittman's good, but he's not LaDainian Tomlinson. Honestly, be realistic.
